Ok I have been told that making starcraft maps is easy...well my opinion there not easy at all..takes alot of math and other things.
Well what is your opinions??
is it easy or hard??
Shouldnt this have been a poll?
Anyway I think its easy when your doing stuff that you have done before or stuff u have messed around with and its hard when u try to add a completely new thing to you or the starcraft community to it
Depending on map and inspiration. I say it's fun to make maps

map making is pretty easy once you get used to in my opinion. tt does take small part of math in mapping but its easy.
mapmaking would tend to be hard when we're experimenting with things we haven't tested before...but becomes easier when you learn about it. its basically like a trial and error sort of thing.
when people stop progressing on their projects, it doesn't mean its hard...it might mean they are just tired or lazy to finish it or busy with something else(like me in a way).
when you do complex triggers you need to have very careful planninbg or else it'll al fall appart. it can be hard depending on ur coincept of the trigger system.
Easy. The hard part for me is not getting distracted and bored

ya...
but the part that is trueley hard is hanging on in the last strech of the map. like testing thye final triggers and adusting them so it perfect. that can be annoying and time consuming
Mapping in general is easy, what I find hard is getting decent ideas and setting up isometrical terrain. (I could never make a melee map.)
The hard part is sticking with an idea for more than 30 hours...
Maps are the hardest things in the world to make.
I can never start a map... And if I do I usually don't finish it... I only like the part in the middle.
Actually MAKING the map is easy, it's just that you get bored and distracted, and original ideas are scarce.
Honestly, trying to make even the simplest trigger was a wall I couldn't scale for about 3 years. The system just DID NOT make sense to me. But once I grasped the "Cause" --> "Effect" manner of the engine, it all came like a flood. Switches also gave me a little trouble, (because what they're supposed to be used for isn't immediately apparent, at least, it wasn't to me), but I figured them out pretty quick too.
So I'd say mapmaking was really hard for me at first, but then it became fairly easy.
yup thats basicly what happend to me except i looked at some one elses work to try to understand what was happening
When you are working with more complicated systems it can get very hard.
like it is difficult, but for me right now I think it is pretty easy because everything I know, I learned myself, by just messing around a lot with triggers. But when i try to explain it to my friends they have no idea. I am pretty good with computers too so that helps. Overall it is easy, I make defense games, and the hardest part for me is making the levels hard enough not to be a sinch but easy enough so it is possible to be beatin! Like the life and armor and the damage for me is the hardest! Overall pretty easy
I think its pretty easy. It just takes some thinking before hand and some logic. Its about as easy programming can get. The only hard part with sc map making I think is keeping up with all the bugs/other that come out that you can use to your atvantage. For instance EUD and making units invisible.
I guess if you want to do something unordinary like chess I guess it would be fairly difficult but those games are one in a hundred and I've never really done anything like it.
When I'm bored and I program my calculator during math its about as hard as that.
When I first started mapping I was confused with triggers, but I would just look at other maps and then after

Also problem solving abilities (for this kind of thing) get you far.
well im trying to make a map for my semester project and my teacher said it looked easy...and i was like ummm no its hard to even start the thing...so yea....im trying to prove its not that easy...

Lol? A map for a semester project? Lol.
It was MUCH easier when i was starting out. The need to learn every last trigger. The thrill of your first completed map. Now i cant get through one project.

UMS I just...just really can't. I had some garbage +1 clone RPG's that play like probably every single one you'd ever see...but they were short and lame and I sucked with the terrain...;P
Melee maps take less time, require no triggers (unless you need a working obs version, which you can probably download the triggers for), and less specific details in the terrrian which usually ends up being mostly symmetrical.
Both require skill.
now i'm not trying to start up anything, or lead to any conclusions...but the people that think making map is hard or boring would be the result of letting someone create a program to unprotect maps as today's current issue.
anyway, mapping is easy and fun when you get used to it. to make a good map, you should put in some effort. easy thing, is pick a category or a genre type of map and think up ideas based on that. i like making arena and rpg type maps. people make maps because they like making something fun and making a map is sort of a challenge. it might be hard experimenting with unknown things, but if you can get something like a unique system to work, you'll love what you did.
