Did you ever wonder if any members at SEN lived really near you or went to your school/college? What about creating a script for SEN that allows users to put more defined information about location and the like? A script which allows users to add schools and the like to the list (to not waste too much space; every school in the world pre-listed would not be acceptable, I know.), and then other members can add themselves into that category?

It will probably require a few 'keepers' to make sure spamming there doesn't take place (maybe give moderators the ability to moderate that as well?), and a part of the script that requires you to put the category of the thing you're going to add so you can't add things of the same category twice (like if someone adds two schools.. unnecessary).

You understand that not everyone lives in US? User map is quite inactive, I doubt that this would do better..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-04-27 at 14:45:42
Yes, I know. I never said it's limited to the US.

The member map isn't that accurate, is it?

It was just an example, I fond out that Lisk lives in Latvia by member map wink.gif

Even that is useful. And I doubt this system is difficult to code.

For some reason I don't think Deathawk (-__________-) lives 40 miles off the west coast of africa. I don't think many people would give out that information anyway, and there's more of a chance of dumb jokes and fake thigns to happen rather then the chance of 2 members living next door to each other.

Too many people lived in Boston for me to put my pin there -_-

It seems like a good idea but then again like they said, there will be a lot of spam and lies on it. There are a couple of members who apparently live in the oceans. Plus there are some parents (if they ever come on this site) that might think "Oh no, my child is going to get raped by a sexual predator on the website"

that's pretty true...and i probably don't want to find out if there are any people living near me. i bet most of the members here resent on giving out real information about themselves, or where they are or whatever. it's not too smart giving real information like that over the internet even if people are in great distances between each other.

anyway though i think it's both good and bad...the thing is though, just don't take everything you read or see too seriously.

I don't exactly want you to give away your address or anything, something more like where you can meet. Since most members of SEN are in school, I thought it would more like that kind of thing. What's the difference between a member at SEN knowing what school you go to and a classmate or something?

It won't be a map kind of thing; information through text. There will be no categories that encourage you to put down 'ocean' or something, so that won't exactly work, and if you decide to create a category, that's what the 'keepers' or 'moderators' are there for.

Well no one gives their information out with what we have so this would be a waste and pointless. Why would you want someone on sen to be your neighbor then talk to him only on sen. Thats messed up.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kellodood on 2006-04-30 at 18:19:14
It wouldn't work well.

And you would need a secure network in order for information to not leak out.

Well, you would only care about SEN who live near you if you know the person well on SEN. In the case where you know the person quite well, and want to know whether they live near you or not, there's always PMs or other forms of communication. Otherwise, this system really isn't that necessary, nor useful. Well, it is useful for stalkers.

Or, you could just ask them like this, centreri.

Hey! does anyone live near Warren Pennsylvania? tongue.gif

Not true, I only ended up meeting DeathKnight because he was looking at the map and found out he lived 6 miles or so from me, I hadn't even heard of him besides his discoverys at that time. Now we're pretty good together. Also, he didn't rape me. Even though he actually lured me downt ot he park. With promises of candy... Hey, I never got that candy.

Anyway, I guess I'm just open about my info, I've psoted pcitures of my house, my street name, address, city, phone number, excetera.

Yeah, you're right. I enjoyed talking with Isolated about *CENSORED*.

ADDITION:

For a meaningful contribution, I agree with this. An anonymous system that only reveals names if you want to and if they are nearby would be kind of nice.

I never said it was 100% going to be correct. I'm just saying some might think.

if myspace can do it. then so can you happy.gif
its awsome to have a SEN buddy like yeow, he lives about a 20 minute drive from where i live.

anyone else that is close to Fort Worth, Texas or lives in Texas?

Anyone live in NY, Queens, Rego Park?
Anyway, I want an admin's comment or something. I see the flaws in it, but it's still rather easy to code for an experienced person (which I know we have tongue.gif) and no one's forcing you to give away information or exact information.. you can specify that in IM or something, just maybe general location?
