If any of you have AOL/AIM/Trillian that connects to AIM, there is this stupid virus message running around. Since 90% of the people that use AIM know NOTHING about computers, this thing is spreading.. while talking to your buddy, you will receive something like this:

[Insert AOL screenname here]: hehe i promise it wasn't me [URL here]

The URL leads to a 89342984.jpg something file, and it prompts you to download a 2349.jpg.exe. So, the morons that don't know anything about PCs (who don't know about downloading random .exes thinking it's a picture

) click it and open it. You get the virus, and automatically randomly send the message to your friends on AOL.

Has anyone else seen this? It's so pathetic, but it's a good virus spreading idea for all the computer knowledgeless people that use AIM

Yeah, my brother downloaded one of those.

It was like

Brother's friend: hey how do i open this file

My brother ran the exe, and I yelled at him.

I've seen this going around on MSN, but I don't have AIM, so I don't know about that one. Almost everyone of my friends was infected by the virus, but smart me didn't because he's the ultimate best peep!

Yeah this has been going around MSN too. I never click the links unless I ask them what it is and usually it is a link that has my email in it so it is pretty obvious.

people that i dont know that messages me, id usually ignore them and exit the window chat from them out. if someone sends me a file anyway, id usually check it first or not dl it at all. just like in real life, just be cautious of strangers on the internet.

I usually doubt when there's a link that says Hey, check out this funny picture :) with the people I know. Especially when it's not a jpeg image. Anyway, Im on a Mac.

The chances that the same Virus will cause the same intended damage on different OS are very slim.
A Virus has to break the OS code and security for it to start working and obviously, Mac and Windows are very different.

Anyone who even has firefox shouldnt fall to these things, honestly, who RUNS an image file, thats kind of a dead tipoff, even to computer novices, that something isn't quite right.
Especially when your browser asks you if you're sure that you want to RUN a file.
