Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> Went to the moon in 1969?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Brand-NewDML on 2006-04-27 at 22:46:21
Today in class we were talking and somehow we got to talking about landing on the moon. There are rumors going around saying the US never went to the moon in 1969 and it was all a lie to say we beat russia.

And as i watching TV there was a Red Bull thing on and it was an astronaut and he drank a red bull and got wings and they said come back we will record the whole thing in the studio again.

could this be true?

On July 20, 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. He said the historic words, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

A camera in the Lunar Module provided live television coverage as Neil Armstrong climbed down the ladder to the surface of the moon.

It's dubious that there were means to recreate a low-gravity climate such as the Moon's in 1969.

Conspiracy theories are not serious discussion.

A small part (less than 2%) of the population believes the moon landings by NASA were a hoax. It is almost certainly true that man did land on the moon, however.

It's a rumor the Soviets made up.
Think about that for a second and you'll see why.

actually from my astronomy class, neil armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon, and russia was the first nation to land a robot or satellite on it. landing on the moon is a great feat for mankind but its nothing compared to having someone landing on a planet.
here are some dates i got from my text book;
1957 - first satellite is launched by the soviet union
1959 - soviet sends spacecraft around Moon
1961 - Kennedy announces of landing an american on the Moon aka Apollo program
1969 - first american walks on moon
1972- last american to walk on Moon

as said in textbooks and stuff i've read, the moon is geologically dead anyway. crated up and no atmosphere=no weather,no water, etc.

There is in fact a mirror the astronauts left on the moon and you can still see it today with a telescope.

Lets all just forget the cold war.

Well, forget it except for 1337 movies like Dr Strangelove

Easier to land a man on the moon than to fake it in a studio, have you seen movies from back then? they suck.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kyuubi. on 2006-04-28 at 02:08:57
it takes a at least over a billion dollars to fund a space program or mission into space. during the cold war, the u.s funded NASA and science programs in schools with lots of money and cut some stuff back. i agree with you that the setting of a moon in a studio sucks though.

Everything is possible. Seeing as you werent there on the moon when Neil Armstrong walked on it! There are many legends about Neil Armstrong being on the moon. It couldve been faked and maybe it was? But maybe he did realy go there we cant know for sure.

people will allways find some "glitches" to this topic, like: "ah, look there are no stars in the background!" or something like that. but i think they really did go to the moon. the undoubtable fact: they left a mirror for scientific research.

Plus, you know, if you have bright lights near your camera, and take a picture of the horizon (here on Earth, this is), you won't have any stars in your pictures, either.

i think those who dont believe are dumb.

i believe its true.

I think he went.

The only thing that remotely doubts my beliefs is how stupid we've gotten and that we haven't went in like 35 years, and they predicted moon bases and we were gonna go to mars, etc etc...but it's been so long where we've just taken a shiz on skylab and done some fool small ass 'international' space station =/

But it might end up being sorta like when the americas were first discovered by europeans.

ie. 1492, Columbus goes and farks himself in the caribbean and people credit the discovery of the 'new world' to him.
First town was in like 1608 with Jamestown or something like that.

No, I don't know all the facts, I just know that it was a shiz load later than when they first found it...

And they only went when they noticed that they could make money with trade with the colonies.

And going to space is expensive, long, and no one seems to really wanna do it anymore. We don't have the post WWII mood of "impossible? fark yea, let's go!"

I remember seing a documentary on fox or some other channel.. they kept seemingly proving that they had never went to the moon.. Crosshairs were under objects in images, and they noted something about noxious gases that the astronaughts would have passed through to get to the planet which would have indeed killed them due their suits not being equipped well enough.. *from what I remember hearing* but then again... whos got a super duper telescope good enuf to see that flag wavin around on the moon because of the wind? lol
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lithium on 2006-04-28 at 11:14:35
sigh, small satellites and probes get past those "things that are supposed to kill mens" around earth or between earth and moon but those are all "unproved hoaxes".

Watch the television show Penn & tellers bullshiz. One of their episodes is about conspiracy theories such as the landing on the moon, jfks death, and even 9/11...

there is no Cold War now. just concurence, but that is not powerful enough to make them do something serious. it's all politics. they don't spend so much money on it just cuz there is no "race".
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-04-28 at 15:33:39
From what I know, the video showed the 'flag' waving - there's no wind on the moon.

Edit: Oh, said already. So they filmed it in a studio. Is that so unbelievable?

a flag can wave cuz of this: when they put it there, they shook it, it it was shaking & since moon's gravity is weakier, it shook longer & more steady.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2006-04-28 at 16:57:23
A flag on the Moon can wave because of Solar Wind that carries gas and dust.

There are no stars in the background because the earth dims them all.

Space suits could have well endured the moon's climate. If we succesfully did EVA in 1965 with a less advanced suit, then we surely could have built a better one by 1968. The only difference between Earth orbit EVA and the Moon is Solar Radiation, which can easily be absorbed by a suit.

How the hell do you simulate low gravity on a studio? You'd need to have a constant force going in opposite vectorial direction to the center of the earth. You can't use ropes to attach the actors nor wind.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Syphon on 2006-04-28 at 20:15:39
The flag was held up by a string.

They couldn't have reproduced low gravity, unless they flew in low parabolic flight.

The "noxious gases" that people were talknig about on the last page, which aren't even close to gases, the Van Allen belts, are radiation that wouldn't kill a human if you sat right in them for years.

The stars are dimmed by Earth and the bright contrast of the camera.

Mirror.

Etc.

If you don't believe just get a telescope and seek out the landing site. Get a good one and you could see the footprints.

I belive that they went up there but they didnt need to bring a camara crew I do kindof belive that they reshot it on earth
