some days ago, 20 years passed since the Chernobol tragedy. what do you think, could they evacuate the people faster, or even avoid the tragedy happening ? were those sacrifices (i mean those who were fighting with radiation spreading) necessary ?
This should be in Lite discussion...
Well the radiation even made it to my country.. But theres nothing to talk about Chernobol, seeing as we cant change the past but we can only prepare for the future
I belive they couldve been faster but not fast enough
And yes think if the radiaton wouldve spread even more.. Than it did
Chernobyl was due to human error, so yes, it could have been avoided. However, the efforts to block the radiation were necessary because the radiation emitted was extremely toxic. Alpha, beta, and gamma radiation can be blocked by lead and concrete.
Yes they can HS, but I believe only gamma rays are strong enough to actually alter DNA, which causes deformity.
Although any radiation actually is, Alpha particles and Beta particles aren't truely radiation. Seeing as how they're made of protons & neutrons.
Gamma radiation can decay flesh.
I researched about this last year for chemistry. The scientists broke so many regulations. Not just normal regulations, like very important ones. They were careless idiots. End of story.

if they were careless idiots, why did they get the jobs ? you exaggerate it too much. they just didn't have enough experience to run the test that they were told to.
The test being run was a risky one, and they either were not experienced enough or they were careless. And why'd you, Loser, research Chernobyl for chemistry? Are nuclear reactors run on chemicals or nuclear reactions? And why'd they get the jobs at the reactor?
This should probably be in Lite Discussion.

could some one explain to me what happend?
Chernobyl was the worst nuclear accident. It was caused by human error, and radioisotopes and radiation spread across the earth.

They wernt really "careless" it was a mistake maybe it was to big of a job for them and maybe there were regulations being broken but it was an accident
As for getting people out faster and the rescue workers I dont really think they could have got out faster they had to evacuate a large area and they needed the rescue workersQUOTE(Jammed @ May 3 2006, 02:10 AM)

When I said they were careless idiots, I didn't mean they were actually stupid people.
(This paragraph is branched off another serious topic)
And there you have it, ego defense mechanism. I can easily go through this entire site and find literally hundreds of posts involving it. It has derailed countless topics.
Although I am wrong in the sense that I used the wrong words to express my opinion, it is hard to admit it at first. Cause I too and just about everyone else here, have an ego.
this is like the simpsons with the nuclear stuff? like extremely stupid people run a nuclear plant or was this a bomb?

The world is already full of radioisotopes.

It's like once upon a time in Russia they were nuclear reactors as far as the eye can see, all under the watchful eyes of the communist overlords. One day, the communist overlords gave too much freedom to the careless nuclear technicians. The careless nuclear technicians, being sneaky as they were, screwed something up, they then had a meltdown that blew up the plant. (Chernobyl no.4) After the cleanup, the deaths, and the mutations it was recorded as the worst nuclear disaster of all time. Think hiroshima, but no one saw it coming, and it sucked much worse.
The lesson; Always obey the communist overlords.

There's always radiation. I should've said a heightened level of radioisotopes and radiation, my mistake.

lol thats a good way to put it
that had to suck

i feel sorry for the people there

radiation sucks more than most of SEN can imagine.
my gandfather was participating in a nuclear bomb test. he didn't get a dose of radiation, but he told me what's it (approx.) like.

they were told how to protect themselves & what can happen if you get a dose.

this is kinda Vague.. but w/e. Speaking of this accident.. I saw a funny Political cartoon of Iran holding a nuclear weapon and going, You think Chernobyl was bad. Kinda funny in a way. Also, i think what happend, happend. They had no choice and I belive they tried their hardest to get out asap.
On a related note, has anyone even seen faces of death? Particularly the scene with nuclear testing. If not, download it. It scared me crapless. More crapless than the scene of an unknown Russian being slowly decapitaed up close.
The music is so dramatic, and the shockwave looks like fricken' light spreading across the ground. Paint instantly evaporates, and 40 foot trees and smacked to the ground with the force of a hurricane. That wasn't even close to the intial detonation, it was like 20 miles away, you could barely see the mushroom cloud.
Weren't the Russians trying to make an enormous shield over there country to protect them selves from American super nukes that Kennedy (I think) lied about?
