Once again, I come before the members of SEN with a challenge. This one is even more crucial to Firegraft's eventual modding power. I'm too busy to try to find this myself, so I pass it on to you for now.

I will give at least 200 minerals, and a guaranteed spot for beta testing FG for the person who can show me where Orders.dat order 'Hover' or 'Attack Tile' is used by any unit at any time. Do whatever you need to find it. Currently, I(and Voy, since I already asked him about hover) believe it to be unused by any unit during the game. Although I do not wish for you to prove me wrong, try. All those who sincerly show effort in solving this will also be considered for a beta slot.

It appears to be a unused attack type that blizzard never used, not anything to do with 'hovering'

My first (and wild) thoughts about these are the following (but you probably tested these options already):

!)As you remember, the movement type that did not activate the spider mines was called "Hover" in Arse3. So, the order with the same name may be activated when a unit enters the targeting range for a spider mine.

@)"Attack Tile" makes me think about terrain-targeting spells, like Dark Swarm, Disruption Web etc. (actually, any spell that has the "Terrain" targeting flag set). It might be run when those are used.

These are my first ideas, which needs verification.

So far, from what I can see the Attack Tile order is not used in those kinds of spells... although I may be wrong.

What I did was have the Attack Tile order emulate "Die", so when it was used, the unit would stop responding to commands.

The Marine, when using Attack Tile as its attack command stopped responding and froze.

Spells and their casters, however, acted normally.

I don't know too much about Orders.dat, so that might not be an effective way to test it... ermm.gif

Not many people do. I'm lucky to be able to look in the exe to try to figure stuff out about it....

And BK, I didn't test those yet. I did test hover against units that don't set off spider mines, but not completely. We'll see what happens on those, but it might be a couple of days. I still need to get SF info on images.dat/iscript.bin for SCMLoader...

If you are just asking for when a unit uses hover and attack yes it does happen. The vulture is hovering which is why spidermines dont effect it and it can attack when moving making both be used

But I already checked the vulture. It never uses the hover order, only a movement type of hover....

So it doesnt really hover? its just part of its movement that the memory doesnt have it attack because it still reads hover? If so than I dont think they are ever used they could just be an unused action blizzard added

Well, trusting Blizzard is a risky option, if you ask me - I'd better check it thrice before going for something like that...smile.gif

Yeah...checking these are part of my weekend project.

Well, I don't really know much about modifications but I'm pretty sure the attack tile thing by the sounds of it would be used by Infested Terran, since it can suicide by telling it to attack the ground.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-05-05 at 15:12:04
Actually, the Infested terran uses the Sap Unit/Sap Location orders....

but thanks anyway. smile.gif

I'm going to check that one for spells...I think BK might be right on attack tile....

Turrets top and tank turrets might use hover.

Spell casters do not use Attack Tile when casting a spell that lands on terrain. I tested Psi Storm...

Oh well, it was worth a try.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-05-10 at 10:16:21
Wait...I have another idea, and I think it may be a good one (or at least worth a try): one of the weapons beahaviours (IIRC) makes it attack the very place the targetted unit was when the attack took place, even if the very unit already moved somewhere else. It looks like the weapon hits the terrain, but the unit, which is a few tiles away still gets damaged. It is possible that the weapon is calling the Attack Tile order in this situation, is it not?

Any luck, DoA?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-05-17 at 15:07:18
Not yet. I guess it is a good thing that I can't find somewhere where it is used....means FG can use them!

if you ever played warcraft you might know that attack tile was like there ballista commands, from what i know blizzard gave up on using it cuss it wasn't really needed, and hover command(ya a command) as far as i know it was to start hovering to avoid spidermines, but like valks afterburners, where abandoned do to a reason
