Staredit Network -> Ideas -> NEW MAP IDEA
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)Excalibur on 2006-05-04 at 23:40:13
Yes i have thought of something. I consider it new because ive never seen it done and even if it has been i havent seen a good one.

I call this -
Grid Line RTS

Mixing up the grid system and LOTR from my personal experiments on RE: CUF i have discovered the following:
Dark Templars can make anything look hittable.

So i took the barracade sprites put DTs right under em and cool right? WRONG.

I wasnt using it to its full potential.

All LOTR maps have mass amounts of units for players. But what if...

Lets say we didnt own these units and we had a grid system using player controlled DT's as battle points. The only way to push back your enemy is to kill these points. Thats where the grid comes in. The players move the DT's in their grid line on the battlefield (Extended terrain prefered) and try to make their side win. Depending how many points your comp ally takes in that line determines:
A. How far the other comp is pushed back
B. How many units the comps will lose. (Comps dont literally "Fight", infact hteyre not allied with you, their teamate specifically. All Players are allied to eachother and both comps.)

And....

And this hasnt been done and i think it could be alot of fun. Add in custom AI Scripts along with existing ones and you have a killer map. Maybe throw in some Player or comp controlled heros to spice it up.

What do you think?

It sounds like something which will actually make these maps interesting smile.gif (I never happend to have a fun game with that maps at least). I don't completely understand it yet, do you mean that the 'edge' of every army is coverd with Dark Templars? So when two armies clashes and all hell breaks lose they won't attack each other but the DT's, when you have killed enough DT's the other army will have to withdraw and you'll gain more ground?

Eh, sounds ok to me, good idea tho.

x = Comp 1 army (Comps are allied to eachother but not enemy players DTs)
o = P1 Dts (Allied to all)
y = Comp 2 army (same as above)
a = P2 Dts (Allied to all)

y a o x
y a o x
y a o x
y a o x

And yes you gain more ground by your allied comps army killing other players Dts. How many you win or lose by determines how many units you lose and how much ground you gain.

Hard to tell if this is a good idea or not. If you set a map up like you said, couldn't p1 and p2 just move dthe dark templars out of the battle zone or something? And isn't it more fun if the armies just fight each other? Could be a good idea, but if say, you want to flank your enemy, would you be able? Could you move the dark templars in a line over to there? Or would the human player have to do that?

It sounds very complicated, make a test map, then we may see if it is a good idea.

Yes you could move the DTs and no not totally flank your enemy but yes to an extent. The way the map is to be set up the DTs wont have enough room because of the armies. Plus teleport triggers so the DTs cant exit that battle points zone. Like i said its kind of like a grid.

The humans control the DTs but using AI scripts a set of commands with a civ n beacon could work. (Just an idea)

((I may make a test map))

ah, I see, yes not a lot of people erplied to this, but that might have been because it was showing them a new idea, not asking them about a new idea. That could have been it.
