i wud like to say that some rpgs arent what i thought them to be,
the only tru rpg is Baulders gate.
back on topic the money that u accumulate from killing "monsters" in the game is
impossible because monsters were likely NOT to carry money since they are demons and such, the only monsters that would have this would be another race or
"intellegent" monster closedeyes.gif

Ever played Final Fantasy series? Did you see monsters not carrying money?

Maybe the money comes from selling off useful parts of their dead bodies. tongue.gif

Monsters need money to buy weapons.

Also, you need some kind of profit besides exp when you kill monsters.
Weapons, armor and gold.

Money comes off seeling monster's armor/weapons. Besides, the monster will have money the stole from other people they killed.

Monsters also dont carry items and equipment, and it usually doesnt take more than a few shots to kill your character. But thats with realism. Take, for example, any of the Final Fantasy games. The key word is 'fantasy'.

Hm.... what if you were making the game based on like gold, not man-made money? Certain monsters can be made by gold or have a valuable part in this, like an rpg in a time where you trade for stuff, not buy?

Okay, I doubt that you'll have anything to sell after killing A LUMP OF SLIME.
This is a problem I've had with Rpg's too.
Something like a glob of slime will be carrying around money. When it's so weak that some 16-year old beats the censored.gif out of it.
I also have the problem that in lots of Rpg's, you can walk into people's houses and they don't give a damn if you start looting their cupboards and censored.gif .
That and the male heroes almost always have spiky hair.
EDIT: Also, selling a monster part would not INSTANTLY give you money, when you are in some floating castle in the sky with no other humans and no way to sell it, no way for anyone to even know if yuour ALIVE. And also, different places would pay different amounts for different body parts. Hey, there's an alternative to getting gold, you can collect their body parts, which means that a powerful attack like chopping off a creature's head would be better then using "Smash with rock the size of moonagablitzultimatedarkinhumanextremeubermega spell".

The name is "Baldur's Gate" not however you spelled it, and what about Icewind Dale? or other games that were made by Black Isle/BioWare or whatever. In Baldur's Gate and most other games, I've noticed that demons are usually intelligent. Of course monsters want money, it's shiny! shiny shiny shiny shiny shiny

A LUMP OF SLIME.

Most monsters are not supposed to be lumps of slime. The average monster would be armored by the enemy and carry weapons and armor. happy.gif

First of all, if something as improbable as a dangerous lump of slime existed, who are you to say that it can't have loot on it somewhere? I mean, it's an animated lump of slime, for chrissake. If that's possible, anything is possible.

Maybe monster eat the gold and you get from cutting there stumoch open and taking the insides?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-07-25 at 05:11:41
Nice, Reaver, that's the best explanation yetr.
But other than that, someof them JUST CANT CARRY GOLD DAMNIT. I mean, most enemies are either bugs, giant mutant bugs, or mythical beasts, none of which carry gold.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Reever on 2004-07-25 at 05:14:32
They think its candy and they eat it but for rotting zombies maybe they still have some from whne they were humans?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ent on 2004-07-25 at 12:19:14
What about fallout? only the "human" enemies carry gold there if I remember correct. you never saw a giant mutated rat carrying gold..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by linux_junkie on 2004-07-25 at 23:34:26
Okay, enough nonsense. Gold is a rare commodity, hence it's value. Yet, somehow, a ball of smelly goo or a gelatinous cube, or a giant freaking bug manage to get hold of this rare and precious metal, and hold it with, what? They have no hands, pockets, etc. But when they die, gold magically flies from their bodies? BS.

Also, why does every single creature in an RPG have to be hostile? With very few rare exceptions, anything that lives will attack random adventurers FOR NO REASON. Wtf? Call me crazy, but the last time I went hiking through the woods, I don't remember being accosted by gold-carrying giant squirrels, or club-wielding gnats of doom.

Now, I'm not saying that games should be realistic. In fact, I usually hate realism in games. But being unrealistic, or fantasy, is one thing. Being f***ing stupid is another. Some common sense would definitely help out these RPG makers, seriously.

If a monster gets a hold of gold, what would they do with it? Do they wander into the towns of the people that are scared to death of them and that's the reason they called upon you to help them rid the world of such vile creatures and spend the gold? I think not. The best explanation is that RPG's are for crack heads and people who want to live their dreams to the extreme. Not for me.

Hehe, go to Newgrounds.com and look up something like "Ff7: ABout Random Battles" or something like that. It brings it up in there to. It says, "Yes Cloud, I have no clue why two wild dogs are carrying around 248 gil and a Fire Ring." So yeah, no one knows why, but oh well. We shall call it "THE EIGHT WONDER OF THE WORLD, MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
