I know that beta version of Star Craft was another game, not what we see now. I try to find and download but i found some information and screnshots/ thats all. May be somebody knows about it more than i?
I know that some of the units had different names: Marine was Marauder, Wraith was Phoenix etc.
The Zerg were called the Zurg.
Also, the High Templar could attack like Tassadar, and the Defiler could attack too.
And also The Dragoon was called a Templar O_o
Here is a link to some crap about SC beta and Alpha but...I dunno about downloading sc beta to play it -_-
CLICK ME!!If you actually get your hands on SC Beta, you won't be able to play it.
Blizzard makes their Beta's b.net only.
But if you do find out how to get it, lots of people'll like you

I don't think anyone really knows how, there's an SC demo, but that's SC-, not SC different.
And Templar is an okay name for the dragoon, seeing as a Templar is a defender(cehck the dictionary).
And 'Dragoon' isn't a great name for them.
A Dragoon was a 18th-19th century light-horseman carrying a musket or carbine.
I thought a dragoon was a heavily armored warrior or knight...
Dragoons are the complete opposite to heavily armoured warriors:
http://www.civilwarhome.com/cavalry.htmThey didn't even fight on their horses - they dismounted and fired.
Oh, and the heavily armoured warrior you're thinking of is probably a Paladin.
i saw a lot of screenies and some background of sc:beta on sclegacy.com. look around for the article. i liked how the dropships would actually land to deploy units. and floating drones? gogo look!
If you get your hands on Beta, make sure to get a hold on the units, buildings, abilities etc...
Some people may acctually transfer tham to some StarEditor and the game should be able to support it.

If i remeber the Dragoon's weapon is a "pluse carbine"
And dragoons are light walkers, heavy would be like a reaver
Also
This page has picks and stuff from the first alpha to BW beta
Dragoons are fat...
Reavers got their name from how they "steal" Scarabs from the ground. A reaver is something who steals, or takes
Zealot is someone who is very determined to do something...
Arbiter is like a judge or something like that...
Probe is like a mechanical unit used to explore
And one more question... how can you tell if player 7 is going to be Brown or Green?
i know how observer got its name .. it observes things

Dragoons are sorta like knights. Kinda fits seeing how theyre the fallen protoss that reside inside that robotic body and all.
I think I read somewhere that reavers were destroyers. Fits with the ingame unit.
Arbiter does = judge, like between arguments.
Player 7... arent they supposed to be white? Anyway, theyre green if its snow tileset.
The Observer used to be called Witness. Also, some of those pictures on SCLeagy are fake, if you look at the shadows on some of the buildings you can tell they are fake because they don't even look remotely like the building.
I saw the sclegacy beta thing and I dot care if some things look fake all those are real.
this site was already posted:
http://www.supremestarcraft.com/mu/alpha.php (DAMN U!)
but we didnt talk about the 2nd to last photo which still make me think. It a lurker burrowed and the lil icon of attack and next to it it has a lockdown shape were it normally shows armor o_O what could it be

They be real to you, but any modder can tell you some of them are completely fake. They are from the Prebeta mod, that Blizzard killed, which was hosted on Infoceptor.
Okay, I've only read the first page, but about Dragoons...
according to the American Heritage Dictionary,(my bro checked some months ago) Dragoon is a heavily armed warrior.
Bleh. It might have been different at different times.
Welll we arnt modders We are a Mappingcomuinty.
If you eanna now about names of units: They all take from mythology or from stars name. I have a article, but it on russian/ Im very lasy to translate it=) If you want i can post it here
