-Then you make a town or something until some one pisses you off.
-When they piss you off say something like"I Smite Thee with thy Unholy Marine, Named Alderan" Note: If the RP features sounds it would be good to use one now.
-Then your opponent will reply "You can'st Smite MEE, I Smite Thee Instead with thy Catastrophic Mass of Broodlings from Eanore, They return to fufill there revenge from long ago."
-Then you say "*&%& you cheater, &^%$ ^%%( ^%&( &^%&*"
-Lastly you quit and join another RP to waist several more hours doing absolutly nothing, playing a map that takes no skill to make with more idiot 15 year old children Smiteing Yee all over again.

Bolt is gravely mistaken.. and yet, sadly, real RPs are often much worse. Often an RP consists of the following people.
1.) Town Builders - These guys make huge ass towns that take forever because the game probably lags. Eventually the town is destroyed by player type three, or the game dissolves when someone drops or leaves.
2.) Heros - This is the
who is too lazy to build anything so he has some uber powerful "hero" who probably has a pet dragon if he's feeling extra cliché. They visit the Town Builder's towns if the game lasts that long.
3.) The Newb - This guy doesn't know what the Hell is going on and seeks to mass some unit with 255/255 upgrades and kill everyone.
To cope with this, us real RPers have long since enjoyed the use of the "Ban Function" included in nearly every RP. Most good RPers are Canadians, as Canada is boring, and idle minds are often the most creative. It's also nice to have at least one female in the game, as they stir up the emotions (and hormones) of the male players allowing for a better storyline.
ANYWAY... RPing is like playing with Action Figures. It's also like D&D, except everyone is the DM. It takes a couple of minutes at best to become familiar with the layout of the options in an RP. At which point, you'll probably want to build something, even if it's just a small town or dungeon. Virtually everyone will have some hero character, some more developed then others. These heros can then visit the locations the other players have created. Often no storyline is set and the storyline that develops is completely dynamic as each player adds his 2 cents.
As for what map to choose? I recommend Antiem beacuse it owns. It's the best RP ever. Also I made it so hah! I'm serious though.. it owns... Also I more recently released Domain of Treboria which I think is even better.

I have to say that I've played RPs and just haven't liked them - I fail to see the point in them unless you enjoy wasting your time playing a map with no objectives.
Usually I'll just spawn huge numbers of computer units and try to take them down to distract me from the dull nature of RPs.
I could enjoy them if Starcraft had programmable 'quests.'
In essence, RPs are a decent enough idea but unsuitable for Starcraft due to the limitations of its engine. This makes them the epitome of tedium in my experience, although I've only ever played the terrible (so I'm told) GERP.
I admit that I enjoy pissing people off in RPs without giving them too much reason to ban. Sometimes I just let powerful computer units run riot. It's fun to watch them own other players.
