1 month is ample time for even the bussiest unless you are not commited.

1-2 weeks is the best

For RPGs? I'd say a month is good. As long as you allow them to use maps they've already started (but haven't released). If you give them 2 or 3 months, then they should have to make a brand new game.

What if they go ahead and make a staredit only map (or have one in the works) now and submit it when the tourney rolls around? Does the map HAVE to be made in between the start and finish dates?

Just curious, in these star-edit only contests can you do color text? I don't know what you should do for time limit. I'd say 2 weeks though.

I think this came up last time, and colored text was not allowed.

It has to be done between start and finish, like Meese's

Ya. It is NOT aloud. Ever. Period. Well, it was aloud before so long as you found the alt codes yourself. But people female doged that it might make it easier to cheat so I changed the rules halfwya through the contest. Which caused more people to female dog and moan about nothing. This time the rules will be solid and full of disclaimers.

1 week!

You still have no way to determine if a map was made in StarEdit or in another editor.
Whatever methods you used last time were obviously flawed. The map I entered into the previous contest was made in StarEdit but it was disqualified anyway. I know for certain that at least one of the maps that was accepted was not made in StarEdit.

You also have no way of knowing when a map was started. Someone could easily have started a map today or a week ago and submit it when the contest is over, you'd have absolutely no idea.

Rules that you can't enforce are useless.

Oh well, it can't get much worse than the last one. *shrug*

To discover whether or not it was made in Staredit, you could try and open it up in StarEdit.

Anyways, I think a month would be good.

Why not colour tags? Copy+paste works fine... And lets say for example, hypothetically, if one did not like classic triggering, and preferred using the StarForge type method, would that person be able to save and load the triggers?

Three hours.
I used to make random ass maps in that amount of time.

I don't like very long contests. Maximum of 3 weeks if you ask me.

Wouldn't you just have to look for AI Scripts/units/sprites etc that aren't placeable in Staredit? I mean, I suppose someone could make their map in SCMDraft, and then not place anything that's not possible in vanilla Staredit, but that would be pointless...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Insane.oO on 2006-06-07 at 17:05:05
what if u can do rect terrain n crap in staredit?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kenoli on 2006-06-07 at 19:04:49
You don't actually have to use StarEdit, you just have to pretend like you don't know any advanced map making stuff.
It's possible to use color tags, square terrain, 'hidden' AI Scripts, etc. in StarEdit, but if you actually use them all hell breaks loose.
