Time to announce some winners and dish out some prizes.

As a reminder, May's Theme was The Ocean.
Let's get that judging criteria out there again:
QUOTE
Theme (10) - Obviously this is the name of the game. If the map isn't even remotely related to the theme, it won't score very well. A map scoring 0 on this won't be graded further. Something that looks premade and just custom fit with a few text messages won't score very well.

Fun (25) - Important for me as I'm playing the map. Am I running around having a good time, or watching a unit talk to itself in a movie? If I ever go to this map again, is it going to be to play it with friends or to delete the scm/scx? This is probably going to be the deciding factor in contest entries.

Aesthetics and Professionalism (15) - Did you use one type of tile and no text color? Are there mispellings distracting me at every turn with some poorly made triggers? Hopefully you can create something that looks and feels decent. I'm not asking for extensive extended terrain or hundreds of sprites, a map with a unique feel to it should score at least an easy 10.


Wave Racers by Kenoli
THEME: 10/10
Racing on the waves.... yeah.
FUN: 19/25
Basically it boils down to a big bound type race... which is hard to pull off. Still good for what it is, though.
PROFESSIONALISM: 15/15
Beautiful in terms of bug-free, well-triggered, and well-made. Stereotypical (U) quality. wink.gif
TOTAL: 44/50 - First Place! 600 minerals

Submarine Warfare by happybikini
THEME: 10/10
Fighting submarines, rawr!
FUN: 20/25
Good and fun mass maps are usually very hard to pull off, but this one does the trick. The action is fast paced.
PROFESSIONALISM: 13/15
Very well put together and not many bugs. The balance is a tad off. Also, you don't really get a chance to save up for the larger missiles. The captured fish should be stronger. Cost and balance adjustment would suit this map well.

Treasure Divers by Heegu
THEME: 10/10
Diving for treasure, works for me.
FUN: 20/25
Overall a good game. It does get slightly repeitive, but the game still remains interesting.
PROFESSIONALISM: 12/15
The map is pretty well put together. I think the "Radar" lies a bit though. tongue.gif Also, some respawns would be nice if you die.
TOTAL: 42/50 - Third Place! 150 minerals

Island Taxis by MillenniumArmy
THEME: 10/10
It fits the theme fine.
FUN: 16/25
The map was pretty fun and entertaing. Sounds definitely enriched the gameplay. A strict learning curve means it takes timer to master the game, however, the game gets repetitive very fast. More featurues or variations should have been added to the map.
PROFESSIONALISM: 15/15
No complaints on functionality. Everything works fine, the map is bug free and looks good.

Dirty Fish D by Noober
THEME: 8/10
Its got more to do with fish and sex than the ocean.
FUN: 19/20
Very fun and challenging... but a bit too challenging.
PROFESSIONALISM: 12/15
Seems well very done. I wish the difficulty would adjust for number of players though. Some of the units can't always reach to attack, such as Firebat.
TOTAL: 39/50 - Noteworthy Mention 75 minerals... plus the first ever "WTF?" Award.

Ocean of Fire by Shocko
THEME: 10/10
Oil tanker makes a fire in the ocean and must be protected.... cool.
FUN: 22/25
This is a very fun and challenging map based on an interesting concept.
PROFESSIONALISM: 07/15
Grammar was bad at times, but readable. Also, you could have at least renamed the units. Develop the idea more, it looks very rushed. tongue.gif

Ocean Warfare by fritfrat
THEME: 10/10
Its warfare in the ocean... but unique.
FUN: 18/25
The map is fun... it just took me a couple remakes to notice that.
PROFESSIONALISM: 10/15
The map should have been explained better. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on and how things worked.
TOTAL: 38/50

Pirate Tug of War by ae)fenrir
THEME: 10/10
Pirates fighting over their ships in a tug of war, interesting.
FUN: 15/25
Well, its pretty much a mass game with some heroes and an Angry Sea Gull. It didn't feel very dynamic.
PROFESSIONALISM: 12/15
It was well put together and bug-free, but the concept could have been developed more. Also, "requiring" one player in a force should be a thing of the past.
TOTAL: 37/50

Oceanic Depths by xmrxsiegecopx
THEME: 10/10
Fight against some crazy aggressive fish and such underwater.
FUN: 15/25
A very slow moving map if one wishes to win. Difficulty increases exponentially with each new enemy, so it's gonna take awhile. Interesting concepts and a good briefing, but that only set up high expectations which weren't met.
PROFESSIONALISM: 10/15
Too hard and slow moving.
TOTAL: 35/50

Pearl Harbor by Dark_lunatic_K
THEME: 10/10
Defending Pearl Harbor, that works.
FUN: 13/25
The game is way too short, and not much of a challenge. If you pick sairs, splash damage makes it nearly impossible to lose. If you pick Scouts, you lose because they don't shoot fast enough. Gets repetitive.
PROFESSIONALISM: 12/15
Needs better balance and AI, the enemy just masses together making themselves easy targets for Corsairs. Also, the map was repetitive. You're running the same mission three times on three ships, the only variation is the count of enemies.
TOTAL: 32/50

Ocean Warfare by dumbducky
THEME: 10/10
Fighting over naval bases, cool enough.
FUN: 14/25
Very fast game.
PROFESSIONALISM: 7/15
Seems way too rushed, the briefing needs waits. Also, yes, I lost my base, but I'd at least like to TRY to recapture it. tongue.gif
TOTAL: 31/50

Ocean Warfare
THEME: 10/10
Its warfare under the sea... but unique.
FUN: 10/25
The map is sort of fun but weird.
PROFESSIONALISM: 10/15

Nautical Dogfight
THEME: 10/10
US and Japan have a big naval battle, works for me.
FUN: 7/25
There's not much balance, and it gets pretty boring.
PROFESSIONALISM: 10/15
The map itself is functional, but there's a total lack of balance. Japan's units are just too weak to put up any sort of a fight.
TOTAL: 29/50

Fish Market v1.0
THEME: 10/10
It fits the theme fine.
FUN: 10/25
This map quickly turned into patrolling your ship followed by a zealot-buying contest.
PROFESSIONALISM: 7/15
Everything works as it should, except for the purple slot. He can't catch fish, they go to teal for some reason. The bug really hinders the map's potential.
TOTAL: 27/50

Submarine Hunters v0.5 Beta
THEME: 10/10
Submarine exploring the oceans for treasure, cool enough.
FUN: 10/25
The concept is good, but the map itself is very buggy. My "defenders" and "divers" couldn't even deploy.
PROFESSIONALISM: 5/15
Way too buggy to get anywhere. There's no doubt that this would be a serious contender if developed further.
TOTAL: 25/50

Naval Attack
THEME: 10/10
Submarine exploring the oceans for treasure, cool enough.
FUN: 5/25
Not very fun at all. Took awhile to figure out how to play. Some bugs, such as buying BCs (either its broken or the price is wrong). Is there even any way to earn additional points to buy things?
PROFESSIONALISM: 6/15
Poor stacked text in the title. The bug described above.
TOTAL: 21/50

Confluence Offense v0.85
THEME: 10/10
It certainly fits the theme.
FUN: 2/25
It wasn't playable. It was very buggy. When the unit selection came up, it just disappeared in about 5 seconds before anyone could pick. Six seconds is not enough to choose a hero!
PROFESSIONALISM: 7/15
Way too buggy to get anywhere. There's no doubt that this would be a serious contender if developed further. If you're fast enough to decide on a hero or just get one at random, you'll be fine. Thanks for telling me I get killed instantly if I go too far north.
TOTAL: 15/50




Overall, I was very pleased with this contest. I recieved a groundbreaking 17 maps. They are all attached to this post. I'll get up links to the individual top placers and distribute minerals when I get home later. See you guys in June... which it is. tongue.gif

I was quite surprised how low Fish market got scorewise. Didn't realize there were major bugs, owell lol.

aww I forgot to fix the bug where it gave the fish to player 3 instead of player 4 when I was re-doing my map after it crashed. Oh well.

For anyone who plays my map, get the one in the DLDB, not the one in the mappack. It's better explained and everything.

To sum up: I submitted 1.0 to the contest 10 seconds before the deadline was up. I asked Moose to add my 1.1 in the pack (made it the next day) as well as 1.0, because 1.0 actually had gameplay bugs. 1.1 has no gameplay bugs, but the 1.2.1 in the DLDB and I referred to in my Map Showcase thread has a mission briefing explaining the game (slightly) better and a few other appearance corrections.

Hmm.. I just played all the top maps.. I have to admit, I am very surprised that millenniumarmy's did not get first place, since I think it deserves it, but all the others were fun to some extent as well smile.gif

For people who are going to play them reading this, I'll describe the maps. Wave Racers is basically an Asterioid Race remake, only making laps around land instead of going to a destination, and it looks better to the eye. Personally a little too easy for me, even as kakaru, but I guess it's good for pubs. Really well made smile.gif

Submarine warefare is basically a Battlecraft remake. I never liked Battlecraft, so I can't judge how good it is or not tongue.gif. Cool idea of having the main base movable, though.

Treasure Divers is cool and original, I'd definitely suggest playing that.

And Island Taxis is just amazing, of course. I uploaded a replay of me getting 16 deliveries in 1 game in MA's map showcase thread.. tell me if you can get more smile.gif

Well, I wouldn't think my map would win. Because I do agree that it's basically the same thing for 15 minutes (with blockades randomly placed every two minutes.)

Originally I was going to make a battleship game, but then only a few days later, I realized bonelesskid already made one so I was like damnit and so I had to start again. Although I had time to make finishing touches on my taxi game, I didn't have time to add anything extra to it.

11[sup]th[/sup] out of 17 isn't that bad for my seconds map ever. Especially considering I only had 6 hours to work on it, 5 of which work spent fixing out a completely random bugs. If only I had a little more time, I could have added heroes and fixed the briefing, which I didn't realize was broken until a day after the dead line passed.
