Staredit Network -> Ideas -> Which map?

I have two good map ideas, but I don't know which one to use! To help you decide, here are the descriptions:
Squad Tactics: You command a squad of a Ghost, a Firebat, a Marine, and Jim Raynor (Marine), each with a different set of special abilities (for example, Jim Raynor can call in air strikes and emergency evac). You go on missions, and when you complete a mission, you can choose to be airlifted out, or walk back to base. When a member of your squad gets "incapacitated" (killed) his special abilities can't be used, and a carriable "body" will appear where he died. You can get him revived by bringing the body back to the base's hospital. If your entire squad get's incapacitated before you send a distress signal, you lose. Also, there is a close combat mode that you can have activate when an enemy gets close (you can turn it on auto or have it off). There are other features, but I don't want to spoil it wink.gif
Summary: Command a squad, kill stuff, try not to die.
(NOTE: This map would be made in FPS format if I made it. FPS format is where the enemy has allied diplomacy with you, so you actually have to aim, like in Sniper Bald Locks.)

Base defense: Remember that level in the Terran campaign of original Starcraft? Well, this map is sorta like that, except much better. In it, you choose a class, and, again, they each have their own special abilities. Classes include: Sniper, Guard, Pilot, Engineer, etc. A computer player owns the base that you have to defend. They'll do some work, but it's mostly up to you to keep the base safe. Some example abilities are: RAISE ALARM: Call defense reinforcements to your area (Guard). SHARPSHOOT: Temporary one hit kill mode, but you can't move while you're in this mode (Sniper). The objective: Defend the base until reinforcements arrive (roughly 45 minutes, I might make it a random switch), then attack the enemy base and destroy it. Once again, there are more features but I don't want to ruin in for you.
Summary: Defend, then attack. Sounds simple enough, but is it??
(NOTE: I don't know if I should put this one in FPS format. Please leave feedback on whether I should or shouldn't.)
(ANOTHER NOTE: Not a really a defense map. Enemies are unpredictable.)

So, there are your descriptions. NOW VOTE!

Squad Tactics sounds more appealing to me, since Base Defense is basically just a defense where you control a base...Thus the name tongue.gif

But you don't control the base. The computer does. You have to defend it using your uber special abilities (and skill, don't forget skill). And actually, it's not really a defense map. there are enemy bases creating the enemies, so you never know when the next attack comes, or what it will be.

both those ideas have been done to death. maybe we should try to expand our horizons? maybe just maybe?

Hmm.... I haven't seen very many squad combat ones... Actually, I haven't seen any squad ones OR base defense maps that are similar to the ones I'm doing... I've never even heard of a map where the main objective is defending a base, all the maps I've seen just include a base.

Looks like Squad Tactics is dominating. First one to ten votes or the one with the most votes by 8 o'clock tonight (for me) wins. That's in about 4 hours.
ADDITION: Oh yeah, just to let you guys know, the name of the map will NOT be Squad Tactics, and the other one will NOT be called Strategic Base Defense.

squad support is a game where a human player controls a base and up to four other players(they don't have a base) fight with specialized squads they have chosen. together, they have to defeat three computer players.

i say squad tactics for sure, i much rather roam around than stay behind my defenses.

Squad Tactics wins. The people who said they both sound bad will just have to live with it. bleh.gif
P.S.: I MIGHT do the strategic base one... Sometime... Someday...
