A new movie, The Omen, is coming out today in the U.S. (don't know if in other countries) but it is basically about satin's kid and the end of the world. Since the devil's numbers are 666, it's coming out on well... 6/6/06 or in otherwords today. I was just wondering what you guys thought of this.

1. Do you think it's real? Do you think it will ever happen? (Not the end of the world, but satin having a child)
2. What's your opinion on it being today? Is the director just trying to scare people or trying to tell us something important?
3. Since this is basically the opposite of Jesus, god's son, then do you think it's right that in The Omen the parents had sex and had the boy and that Jesus's mother was a virgin?
4. Are you going to go see it? What do you think about the rating on it? ®
5. Since it's showing the world ending, do you think the world will end like this? Or someother way? Explain to us what's your reasoning of the earth ending.
6. What effect do you think the movie will have on religious groups? (This includes devil-worshipers, sorry if that sounds discriminative but I don't know what the actual religion is called, maybe Witchcraft?)

Please answer my questions and/or any questions you come up with!

So I take it you haven't seen the original or even knew it existed (or its 823456t8 sequels for that matter)?

1. No.
2. Its a remake. There is no hidden message. Perhaps you could say the first director had a message, but this is simply Hollywood remaking a good film again.
3. What does this have to do with anything? How Satan's child is born is irrelevant, I think.
4. No. I saw the original, and that was good enough.
5. I don't think the world will end like this at all. First off, I think the remake butchered the ideas from the original, so the end of the world even being shown is dumb to me. I think the end of the world will be due to the Sun burning out.
6. It will have no effect at all. It will be seen as any other horror film.

Actually the Passion of the Christ had a profound effect on the religious community. Christian conservatives felt that that movie perfectly signified the last days of their savior. On the other hand, Jews felt incorrectly profiled as the murderers of Jesus - and inevitably blamed for his death. That, to me, is a big effect on religions. The persecution remains.

Even though it WAS the jews that killed Jesus.

the people that killed him were jewish. we know that but it wasn't the jewish religion that wanted him dead
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2006-06-06 at 17:31:22
Wrong. The Romans killed Jesus. Who are "the Jews", anyways? Do you think the Jews have huge congregations where they all agree on everything? The leaders of the church turned him over to the Romans because he was speaking against the churches selling stuff at the services, he said it should be a pure, sacred place. It was a money reason, and they used the heretical bit as an excuse. Remember also that Jesus was the KING OF THE JEWS.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2006-06-06 at 17:39:34
But the leader of the local area, Pontius Pilate, did not want him dead, necessarily, but the jews did. He was charged and killed for being the King of the Jews.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2006-06-06 at 17:45:54
Again, "the Jews". Like they're soem kind of organization. So you're saying every single Jew in the area wanted him dead? Remember that almost ALL the inhabitants were Jews, so you're essentially accusing an entire nation of wanting one man dead.

The truth is that the Church leaders, who were getting cuts of the profit earned from having what were almost little stores in the churches, and Rome, which got a lot of that money too, were pushing Pilate to do it. The powers that be, not the common people. I honestly doubt that the average citizen at that time really gave a damn about another claimed Messiah, they were all over the place.

1. Satan can't have a child because he doesn't exist
2. The director has good timing
3. No I don't really care
4. I might see it, it might be R
5. I think the world will end when the sun reaches it's limit and turns into a red giant, frying us all into 15 billion (estimate) hunks of steak.
6. I think everyone will get pissed off and send death threats to the creator, who will then proceed with not caring.

No, nothing will happen or has happened. The move looks kinda stupid. The originals are always better. I thought the first Omen was pretty funny. Besides... Im Atheist... I dont believe in that kinda crap.

Today wasn't a bad day. It was actually fun. So 6/6/06 and all the fright, the apocalypse, me and my friends just turned it into a joke.

1. No, but it would be scary if a kid was born today on the sixth hour on the sixth minute on the sixth second...
2. Scare us. He just wants to make money, and since it's The Omen, he thought it would be "scary" it came out today.
3. Dont get this question.
4. Hell no.
5. Earth will end when I have a baby.
6. This movie shouldn't be released on this date. It's like an insult to the christians and catholics and stuff.

Okay, just saw the film. As expected, it was terrible. The original 70's version was much better in my opinion, but then again I am a self-proclaimed film elitist.

And as I thought, it was just a big horror film. No message or anything.

I just got done seeing it. I never saw the original, but I actually thought the movie was decent, the beginning was stupid though, his wife lost her baby so instead they take another baby that isn't even theirs and raise it as their own child without even asking who the parents of the baby is or anything like that. Plus, if the child had the 666 BIRTHMARK on him then why didn't they see it when the baby was born since newborns don't have a full head of hair. In the end I think it's a 3-star movie.

I thought the movie was quite decent. Many people say, "The original was better!" I'm so sick of hearing this. I've seen the original, and if both came out at the same time, I'd like the newer one more. How could somebody say that one is better when most of the time, they were the same. Yes, there were little changes, but that was to make the movie more modern and get to the audience more. I think people get too attatched to the original because it's usually the first version they see, so they look at all the changes as mistakes.

Unlike many others who said it was "terrible" or "not scary at all", I thought it was well made and gave a level of creepiness, especially with black dogs. I believe most people say that just to try to prove something to their friends. I know this isn't the case for everybody, and I'm sure that somebody will post saying that I'm absolutely wrong about my theory, but I don't mind.

Yes, I know there was some cheesy things in the movie, but it was actually better than most horror movies I've seen. For instance, I know if I saw a kid with a knife, more specifically, a steak knife, I would probably be creeped out and start thinking about this movie. Also, black dogs will probably creep me out a bit for a while, but another contribubter is being attacked by a dog earlier in my life. The movie wasn't anything that would make you afraid to sleep, but it was simply creepy, and gave a creepy feeling after the movie.

Since there's been a trend of horrible horror movies, I find this one better than usual, and deserves a bit more credit than most people give it, just my opinion.

The scariest part was when he was going to cut the kid's hair and that baby-sitter jumped up and attacked him from behind because that was the only part that you "didn't see coming"
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HolySin on 2006-06-07 at 01:02:55
Actually, I did see that coming. I whispered to my sister, "The nanny is so going to sneak up behind the guy and go beserk on him." However, I didn't know when it would happen. I think for me would be the graveyard scene. I was thinking about the many possibilities, but I didn't think that two black dogs would attack them. For me, it seemed to come out of nowhere and there was no way for me to predict it. I thought that the guy would be decapitated there, but I was wrong.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by wesmic da pimp on 2006-06-07 at 01:10:27
The graveyard scene was one of the best scenes in the movie, but I don't get the part where he removes the first tombstone and that dinosaur looking thing was in there.

The ending was pretty damn cool, everyone's saying "oh my god! there's gonna be a sequel", but I personally doubt it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2006-06-07 at 01:45:20
If I remember correctly, there were 4 sequels, so I assume they will remake them as well (or at least come up with their own sequels).

HolySin is right. I, like most people, am one of those idealists that compares remakes to the originals. I think in this case the original scared me more than the remake because it was more psychological. To me, its what you can't see that is scary whereas this remake relied on cheap startling scares. And I think the black dogs were not that creepy to me anymore because I saw them in the original (along with the creepy kid for that matter).

Overall, I'd give it 5/10. That's not to say the original is a 10/10 (it had its flaws, too, which would make me think its more of a 6.5/10).

ADDITION:
We may want to get back on topic, otherwise our movie discussion should probably go into the null forum.
