I'm trying to make abilities that deal damage (Fireballs, etc) and I can't for the life of me figure out a decent way to do it. Everyone else on Bnet settles for spawning a Firebat next to your hero, but that's an ugly way to do it, and you have to reselect and recommand the units, which isn't something you want to have to do in the heat of battle. It seems more like summoning than spellcasting.

I'm trying to come up with my own abilities, and most of them don't center on dealing damage, but I've got to have some, and you can only use infested terrans so many times.

Any suggestions on a way to trigger abilities like this?

virtual hp is the only surefire way to do it. otherwise, it'd have to be a one hit kill.

and as an added bonus, you can have +% healing too.

Yeah make health vurt.. So you can make spells stronger and stuff while you lvl >< this is much harder way to do it and takes more time.. But it is the most decent way... So you can always set the amount of damage you want done.. instead of like 10% of health >< If you need help just ask!

I've decided on a method and I'm wondering what everybody else's take on it is. I replace the hero unit with another unit that does dramatically increased damage (say, swapping a marine for a firebat) and as soon as the unit is within attacking range of an enemy, I start a timer to limit the firebat (or whatever unit I decide on) to 1 attack. Then I swap back in the hero unit.

This way, you can cast it before battle and hotkey your unit, or if you cast it in battle, they'll automatically attack and swap back, so there's less hotkey involved.

Virtual HP would probably be the most efficient way to accomplish this. I could provide some spells in my free time if you want.

There is one method that is effective I think you are all forgetting, it takes up a reasonable amount of space somewhere on your map as well as two (non-allied) computer player must be present, but it is as follows:

1] Set "Computer A" to be an enemy of "Computer B"

2] Place multiple reavers for "Computer A"

3] Nearby, place one turret for for "Computer B," surrounding it with invincible units so that scarabs are not able to acquire pathing to the units being attacked.

4] Use trigger "Give", as well as "Move," in conjunction. Move the Scarabs to a location centered around your hero unit, and they will spread randomly out and seek towards things.

I think you will be pleasantly suprised by how clean this effect turns out. And, as a sidenote, you can upgrade the Scarab damage. wink.gif
