Have you ever stopped to think about how over-rated celebrities and sports starts are? I mean think about. The average American doesn't exactly have the greatest of jobs in the world. Some people, work 10x harder than any celeb and they get paid squat. Doctors save peoples lives everyday which is unpayable yet a sports star who scores 50 shots in one game gets more money. People in China get paid appalling amounts of change to work on things that help make our lives easier, while a star signs a deal with Nike and gets 10 million dollars for wearing a pair of shoes made in China. Steal from the poor and give to the rich!

It's just how the world works.

But yeah, I think sports stars are WAY overpaid. And it's funny, seeing some of them hold out(Not signing with the team.) untill they get the raise of 30 million to 60 million.

Well, think about it, they're entertainers. Millions of people around the world pay money to watch the perform which in turn brings in millions of dollars which can be used to pay them. Doctors and other more important jobs don't bring in that much money so they can't be paid that much.

I was thinking about this the other day. I dont get how someone that is famous can be so much of a big deal. I mean if someone has something that, that famous person owned then it is worth a lot of money. Heck they may have touched it like once or twice but its not like a spaceship or anything! Same with their gay autographs and stuff. This is sooo stupid!

If you're a huge fan of... Pink, for example, it would be a positive memory to have an autograph in your room.

Back to the main topic.

Overrated ? By whom ? Only by us, who pay big money just to see them playing/singing/whatever. If everybody stopped paying so much money for it, they would lower the costs of tickets and they would be less overrated, as you say. But they will allways get more than a doctor, anyway.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Pyro_Maniak14 on 2006-06-11 at 22:48:18
But if you think about, you'd much rather be saved by a doctor then figure out that your favorite football/baseball/hockey( wink.gif ) team just won the superbowl/series/playoffs. And if you say otherwise, you know you're lying. I also find 'music and video piracy' funny. Say you're... Metallica, you've made millions of dollars over the years and that's understandable but getting pissed at the population because they took a song or two for free of the internet is pathetic. Shows how greedy someone can be. Also, know that in our culture, we WORSHIP celebrities. There's about 30 different gossip magazines, not even including the billions websites on stars like Jessica Simpson to Lindsey Lohan where everyone talks to each other about such and such's new boyfriend or girlfriend. Sports stars on the other hand, are different, competitive sports are always fun to watch, especially when its feirce, but giving a quarterback a $12 million dollar deal just to be in a pepsi commercial is total BS.

Lebron James could go to college and very easily become just as good of a doctor as a doctor, but that doctor couldn't step on to a basketball court and even come close to competing with professional athletes, no matter how much you pay him. Not only do they entertain us, there's no one out there that can do what they do.

No, because they're not overrated. You pay the money to go see them, and you're hundreds of billions of people. If you stopped paying an overated amount of money or attention, then it wouldn't be overrated. Always thinks in aspects of you, and we. Try less to think in terms of "them".

Doctors save peoples lives everyday which is unpayable yet a sports star who scores 50 shots in one game gets more money.

Unpayable? People have to goto a school to learn to use the life saving materials and techniques we have mastered. You have to pay to become a doctor, and you have to pay to become an athlete. As an athlete you invest your time and body, as a doctor you invest your time and patience(or mentality). If a doctor's role is so important why isn't healthcare free. The Basketball star May make more, but on an average basketball players make much less than doctors. There are no super star doctors that are so say, "worth more" but entertaining is different.
Therefor trying to compare a doctor as an underated figure to a basketball player is illogical, and if you didn't get why it's because doctors make more on average than the AVERAGE basketball players. While there are some superstar basketball players, most doctors get payed in the same range but it just depends on what your capabilities are within the hospital.

Do you trust in god? Do you put your faith in him? Most Americans do, or at least in a certain way. We Americans worship god more than anything else, you know this cuz on the back of every dollar it says "In God We Trust". And the ATM is our Paul spreading the word of the bible to those who are worthy.

Actually, the average basketball player makes more than the average doctor, unless the average doctor makes over $1M dollars.

It's pretty sad, but this world is a dog eat dog. Everyone wants to rise to the top and live a good life. Still despite all that their are people who work hard and still have problems getting where they want. China has it's own problems and that's what they believe is right. They or starting to form a democracy or free market economy and changes has to be made. Still.. not right but you know. People are somewhere self centerd. I don't believe they can help it, It's all for the money.

We'll start with that. WTF!?

Doctors are underpaid? I'm not saying doctors are overpaid, but doctors make a very comfortable living.

However, the average basketball player making over $1M dollars? Wow. How many basketball stars are there out there at any given moment? 100? 200? How many basketball players out there don't make it? Thousands. And they make squat.

The idea that on average, basketball players make over $1M is just ... Wow.

Anyway, moving on. Those that get paid all that money, they get paid that money because they're *supposed* to be the best at what they do. The best.

And the best of every profession gets paid alot. Doctors, Lawyers, Businessmen, Architects, etc. etc. The elite few who can be considered the best of these get rewarded very well, and arguably, they likely get rewarded better than any of these basketball stars or celebrities.

The richest man in the states isn't a 'basketball star' nor an actor. He's a computer geek who made his fortune off of a business opporunity.

Enterntainment helps the world by just that, enterntaining. If you don't find them enterntaining, that's really your own personal opinion. However, a whole bunch of people in this world do, and they're willing to pay them to keep doing what they do.

By average basketball player, I was referring to the average basketball player in the NBA. Not every player in the NBA is a star you know.

Right but police men and Fire fighters are underpaid. They risk there lives everyday on the job unlike most pros.

But a basketball player doesn't have to go to school for 10 years and earn a PH.D. to make a lot of money like doctors do. Some atheletes never finished college and they 'can' still get paid more than doctors. China doesn't really care about its citizens, they have a communist governement and as long as they have a powerful army, they won't care for the lower class who make our clothes. But today, people suffer so people like us get the high life. Also, this shows how uncontrollingly greedy people can get. By switching to lower class citizens in China, you don't have to pay them as much as you would an American. So instead, the rich tycoons convert to poor people to make stuff for them to pay low and sell high, gaining 3x the profit compared to using Americans. Steal from the poor and give to the rich! Yes I know that stars get lots of money off of concerts and movies but being given $10 million dollars to drink a Pepsi or to wear a pair of shoes or to have their music played in a commercial is pathetic.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HolySin on 2006-06-12 at 19:13:38
It's because of the people in the country. If everybody stopped watching movies or sports, those celebrities would no longer get as much money. It's our "fault" that they're rich, so if people are displeased with that, stop watching the television.

I'm pretty sure there is about 15 people on a professional basketball roster, and there is a sallary cap of about 50 million dollars for rosters...

Not sure of the exact dollars, but that's a lot of money to pay 15 people to play basketball for 2 hours every other day.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SiLeNT(U) on 2006-06-12 at 22:53:33
Well, I said average, a lot of players get paid less then $1M and shaq gets $20M.

Read people, read, I've been told by a hundred people that we pay the stars for entertainment but we don't to watch commercials.

only reason celebs are celebs are because of lucky breaks

Expecting life to be fair is one of the most naive and unreasonle expectations you can have.
