Hello everyone, yesterday I finally finalized my Anime Music Video. Yeah I worked on it for several months during this last semester, so I would like it if you all took the time to check it out.

The video is done to footage from Rurouni Kenshin (mostly season 2), and set to music from Nightwish – Nymphmaniac Fantasia

The file is at animemusicvideos.org, it’s a free site with the pretty much every AMV ever made that is worth a damn. You probably need to register before you can download.
Here is the link to my video’s profile. So check it out and tell me what you think!

Here it is streaming on youtube

Big file!

This was very good work. The intensity of the scenes always matched the music's intensity (which is often poorly done in the AMVs I've seen). You timed the cuts perfectly on the upbeats and downbeats, where appropriate. I especially liked the part in the last minute or so, where it kept cutting back to the same scene as the camera slowly tilted up towards the guy with the swords. The manual zoom-outs you did in certain places to introduce the new shots worked pretty well.

One thing that felt a little off to me was the very last shot where the camera stops on the main character and fades to black. As it fades out, the guy starts talking. I think it would've been better if you'd paused it on him smiling and faded out. It just doesn't quite feel like "THE END" since it obviously is just the middle of a different scene. I know that its sometimes noticable when you pause the footage though, so maybe you could try looping 5 or so frames of the shot after the camera stops moving, but before he starts talking and fade over that.

But that may have been a deliberate stylistic choice by you, since you obviously put lots of thought into every cut. This is definitely one of the best AMVs I've ever seen, and I've probably seen about a hundred of them. 10/10

I've never seen the show you used to make it, but its got some killer animation. I'll have to check it out sometime.

I used to make these a few years ago (before my son was born). I went through a little phase or something. This brought back some fond memories. My early ones sucked, but I got better. It was kinda tough though, because I edited with 2 VCRs and a CD player hooked up via A/V cords. Imagine trying to time the cuts on musical beats by clicking the pause button at the right moment! On top of that, I had to edit the video in silence and add the music in later. I'd usually do about 10 or 15 seconds at a time and then rewind it and play the song against it to make sure it matched (which required lots of redos). Nonlinear editing bites. I got good at it, though. I DID get to make my final one with a computer program.

Yeah i'm not satisified with the compression of the file really. I tried ripping it at a lower bitrate but found that it made it look worse. My main problem is that the original rips that I did arn't too good.

About the ending I actually didn't notice that he just started to talk there ... silly me. But yeah I kinda feel that the ending needed a little more. The footage I wanted to show at the end was of Kenshin and Kalru (the redhair sword guy and the girl). Like there getting back together after all the hardships. But the music wasn't really soft until the last note. I could of had more stuff in the silence and i could of redone alot of the shots towards the end i guess. My freind Meghan said the same thing about the ending basicly (actually she didn't like it at all really). She said i should have clips with him walking away or something (although it would have to be walking towards to fit the story)

Thanks alot for your imput, I've heard of people making AMVs with 2 VCRs and stuff before. This is my first video so I hope my future works will be better.

The file's huge! I would download but I'm too lazy to make an account and wait the download time. I suggest uploading it to google video, it does say they allow videos of any size and length.

It sounds good by reading Doodan's post.

Heheh, I'm stupid. I just realized I said "Nonlinear editing bites", when I meant to say LINEAR editing bites. Nonlinear meaning that you can interchange any part of a sequence at any time (which is the best), and linear meaning that you can't go back without redoing everything after that point. The VCR method is LINEAR, which blows, and computer programs are NONLINEAR, which is teh sex.

I learned something in film school. tongue.gif

I had a "Film Appreciation" class, it was pretty cool. Although i didn't try to hard to learn all that sort of stuff. Going into film sounds like a really interesting thing to do for me. I could see myself being a special effects editor for large movies. (although I don't know hardly anything about their job aside from what they do)

dumbducky, thanks for being honest. I may try uploading it still. I started to upload it to YouTube but I think i stopped before it was finished. Although I'm afraid that it will just compress it and make it look like crap.

No, I doubt that's WMM. I've used WMM and it doesn't let you (normally) do some of those effects. I wouldn't doubt it's possible but its much better to use other tools for certain things.

Pretty cool, video. Although I've never seen Rurouni Kenshin, so I don't know what was going on.

It'd be easy to do on a mac. bleh.gif

Drama... yeah I guess so. I used Adobe Premire for the vast majority of it. I would say 100% of it except I did do a little photoshop work to make a few bluescreen images.

Oh yeah I'm running Windows 2000 on my desktop. I don't know how to use Windows Media Maker. I didn't really want to spend the time trying to learn when I've got better tools already.

It was good, especially for a first time. Ill give it a 7/10.

I started to make my own AMV, i had a really good song and all the right scenes to make it, but i couldnt find a GOOD free AVI editor to make it with. If anyone knows where i can get one, please tell me. And i dont have windows XP, so no windows movie maker for me. Im pretty sure WMM doesnt work with AVIs anyways.

ADDITION:
Oh yeah, and <3 Nightwish.
