I was thinking of creating a "Comings & Goings" subforum in Null. This would be for people going on vacation and returning from vacation (or extended absences for the site). Also, people who are already here but aren't new members would use this instead of the welcome forum.

I think it would be cool so then if someone wasn't on for a while you could look there and maybe discover why there not on... or at least what the last thing was they got off to do and never returned from... like got married, or whatever smile.gif .

Meh personally dont feel like its really needed, and if you want a sub fourm in null as the welcome. that wouldnt work out very well, when i was starting SEN I didnt even know there was a greeting section, and if you add the greeting section as a sub forum in the null section. Its more like hiding it...

Yes, but leave welcome forum. Or just make welcome forum "Comings & Goings" instead of subforum.

It's not very neccesary, but I guess it could work. Perhaps it might be used a bit more because it's the summer, but I don't expect much activity from it.

And if new people post in that sub-forum.. then I guess they didn't read the forum description.

Or Welcome could be "Hellos and Goodbyes."

Then we could have a Vacation Cataegory somewhere in Other.

I think it should be a subforum to welcome instead of null but I like the idea

I don't see where I implied that anything was changing with the Welcome forum.

It's worth trying, I have noticed a lot of people leaving and going. But it IS summer time, and the fourm might not hold up later on in the year.

In my opinion, for every forum/subforum created, there should be a forum/subforum gotten rid of, there's a forum for about everything anyways, I don't think we need one.

I don't think it's really needed, becawse topics like "I'll leave for a month" don't seem to flood the Null.

Well maybe it's a sign SEN is getting bigger? It'd be better to have a lot of things organized then a few fourms overflowing with hundreds of differnet topics.

Don't like it. People can easily use their signature space or the shoutbox to notify others. A whole sub-forum on it is just a complete waste of space.

Except the Gmods, who's left? Legacy?

I'm for it. Even though it will eventually evolve into stupidity it'll be good for awhile.

I don't think that an entirely new subforum is needed, just change the description of the Welcome forum. ermm.gif

Wouldn't it take up more database space?

One more entry in the forums and moderator tables won't hurt anything.

No.

Making "away/back" threads are pointless IMO. Most people don't care really. Now unless you are important (as in you are in charge of some currently important stuff) then you should PM those people that need to be notified. Only in VERY few circumstances is it necessary to let EVERYONE know that you are leaving. And the number of occurences will be too few to have it's own subforum.

Nope, don't think it is neccessary, you can just use your signature or personal title for that. Besides if you have that then I bet people will start making topics for when they are going to leave for 1 day or if they go somewhere for a few hours we need to know ohmy.gif.

I rather think that if members really need to stress the point that they aren't here, they can just add something to their signature to that effect.

Why not just have a topic pinned in Null instead of a fourm?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by xMCx on 2006-06-19 at 13:39:50
Sounds like it would be useful. I'm for it.
