This just started today, about an hour ago. Every time I tried to open something from my desktop or start menu or whatnot, this would come up:
[attachmentid=19484]

I also couldn't disconnect from the internet. Something is definately going on here.
So, I just decided to completely destroy Microsoft Money. I don't use the program anyway, so I uninstalled Microsoft Money 2003 and the Microsoft Money 2003 System Pack thing from the Add/Remove window. The install thing doesn't come up anymore, but I STILL can't disconnect from the internet. I'm afraid to restart my computer, because last time something happened like this, my computer wouldn't even start up because of a .dll was missing from the system files, leaving me no choice but to insert the repair disks and reformat. I definately don't want to reformat.

So, does anyone know what the heck is going on, and if you have witnessed this thing before?

thanks

Never had anything like that happen, it's probably a coincidence. I don't think Microsoft Money (whatever that is) would have screwed up your computer; Microsoft is nasty, but it's not vicious. Try restarting your computer and check if everything was correctly connected. If that doesn't work and you get no smart-alecky advice, message Microsoft?

I've had that problem before but I kind of forget what I did. It had something to do with Microsoft Word I think but I'm not exactly sure.

I think something that I downloaded off the internet made it install that program. Once I deleted the file I downloaded I think it stopped.

Try unplugging the cable.

Great. I restarted my computer, and like last time this happened, and AS I STATED in the first post, hal.dll was corrupted/deleted. The computer wouldn't boot, so I found my 10 system recovery cds and attempted to recover the system files. I used 'safe recovery,' which keeps all of your files/data but installs everything that was installed when you first bought the computer. It went through, restarted, and gave me an error that the registry wouldn't update and the system wouldn't boot at the Windows XP loading screen. SO, I did the destructive recovery, or reformatting, and everything is working now. But, I have to get everything back. That includes:

Maplestory: 350MB, an 18 hour download
Starcraft/BW patch, 30MB, 1.5hour download
Firefox DL/patches
Half of silkroad download, 250mb
All my crap from unreal tournament 2004, over 5 gigs worth of DLs (maps/mods)
And a bunch of programs sad.gif.

Lost:
ALL of my pictures taken from digital camera
ALL my music not on cds
ALL my documents

Surprise reformatting is depressing.
So yeah, I am going to buy about 20 blank rewritables from somewhere, like I should have done, and back up all my stuff when I think it's about to blow.

I get(or got) that when Office was installed on another account name on this computer, so I had to install Office on this account. It happened every time I launched Stealthbot, which was every day, every time the computer started.. it got very annoying tongue.gif

Hm, some people are saying that when you uninstall a certain program, it will take hal.dll with it. Really helpful information there, but I just wish I knew which one. (Got the info from random forum threads after google searching.)
