Whenever I restart my computer, the desktop appears blank, showing only my wallpaper. No commands work, besides the Task Manager cmd. Above that, nothing responds. Before it happened, my internet crashed, and someone said for me to restart my computer. Looks like it froze and the TCP (whatever that is) wasn't found.
Any Help?
And does reinstalling Windows XP ERASE EVERYTHING in your Local Disk?

Try selecting "New Task" from File on the Taskmanager.
Type in "Explorer"
And how the bloody hell did you get your internet open to tell us this?
1. NO COMMANDS WORK BESIDES TASK MANAGER
2. Sister's comp (temporarily for about 1 day)
3. I alrdy had the same russian dude come to my house 5 times to fix the same goddamned problem.
Well if Taskmanger runs, you ought to be able to run programs via the Taskmanager.
Therefore, if you have a Defragger or such, you should be able to browse to it and run it.
I could be wrong, of course.

Virus scan?

Already ran 15 times. No viruses.
Defraged my volume just recently. Didn't work.
Well if you can run a virus checker, why the bloody hell won't it let you run Explorer?
IT won't let me run explorer.exe...I'm thinking its a movie I dled from warcraft movies
TCP is an internet protocol. If you can get into your Control Panel, go to Network Connections, right click your connection and click properties. Hit install, click protocol and then "add". Click TCP/IP, or anything else that has TCP if that's not there, then ok. It chould install itself back.
But I doubt that just that would do that to your computer.
Well I couldn't connect to WoW cuz ti said TCP not found.
IRC couldn't work without TCP.
Coulnd't conenct to internet without TCP.
About everything (Xfire, Ventrilo, AIM) said something about TCP.
But not sure...
Well, those are all internet apps, so not having TCP or another protocol would do that. Use my instructions to reinstall it.
I did the virus scans before my comp crashed liek this. I can't access anything now...Does reinstalling Windows XP completely erase everything?
What do you mean "it won't let me run explorer.exe"?
Yes, reinstalling Windows usually erases everything, although there is an option for it not to (but most likely reinstalling it without erasing won't help).

The taskbar and the desktop items won't show up. Plus, nothing responds to any cmd I do.
Put your restore disk in and let it work its magic
You could always reinstall Windows on a different partition if you don't want to lose all your data.. right?
How many harddrives do you have?
My restore disk only has virus protection restoration...
And I only have one drive I think...
But I do plan on reinstalling windows, I just don't know when the CD appears...
Do you know how to boot from CD?
When you reinstall windows it doesn't erase all the data from your hard drive's it just replaces them. Try this if you have a windows xp reinstalling cd:
1: Format your cpu
2: while in dos mode after formating type in C:\
3: type in dir look for the windows folder and type in run windows., Most of the times when this cmd happends goin through dos mode is more easyer than reinstalling the whole thing.
4: If the windows folder is no longer their. Reinsert the windows xp cd. And type in
(whatever your cd drive is):\run.exe
after your format this will erase every thing on c: D: E: and all other hard drives you may have.
GOod luck

I don't think Windows cmd works...I tried to reinstall it.
1. Repair or Setup Windows?
2. Setup: It comes to this menu of something (Said something about memory, idk)
solution that worked for me:
1. Start your Windows XP to Desktop.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del key to open the Task Manager.
3. Click File menu and click "New Tasks (run...)"
4. Type iexplore.exe, and will open internet explorer browser
5. Type c:\, click "My computer", click Control Panel
6. Goto add remove programs, then removed the windows update file that
caused the problem before blank desktop occured. (also applicable to
remove the specific software that caused the problem- "blank desktop").
7. restart computer -OK, try it if it will solved your problem.
You could always start up in safe mode and do a system restore to a date from before this first happened. That worked for me when I had a similiar problem.
Thx Deathawk.
Cruzo: IDK if iexplorer.exe would work. No commands work.
yeow: How do you start up in safe mode again?
When you're starting up Windows, when it says "Press f2 for other boot options" or something close to that.
It'll bring you to a menu, and then you pick the safe mode option.
I'm not sure if the button is F2, though.
