I have recently decided to start the polyphasic sleeping schedule, and decided to share my "getting started" experience with everyone like Demaris did here
for those of you interested, I will be posting my progress here
I created this partiall to use up my extra free time, and partially to help out anyone else considerring this sleep pattern, so feel free to comment/criticize/riticule/whatever, so long as you follow SEN's rules
For those of you still curious, I will be sleeping every 4 hours for 20 minutes, with the times of: 4:20, 8:20, 10:20, then I'll repeat

Get some caffeinated beverages, and a hobby.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-06-30 at 12:54:49
I have some hobbies, and I don't plan on drinking a ton of caffeine, I want a sleep pattern that keeps me awake and from feeling sleepy, not just keeps me awake

The first couple days are HELL without caffeine.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-06-30 at 18:29:32
I know it will be hard as can be, but I think I'd have a better chance of successfully starting if I don't drink caffeine.
Got any better tips than drinking caffeine?

Do stuff that is guranteed to make your alert, such as running away from the cops .

That's what fireworks are for! (if I can buy some, if not I can only do that one day)
I think I planned this pretty good, around this time our neighbors are launching fireworks and a new pirates of the carrabean is coming out... that should keep me a little excited at least

Chocolate covered coffee beans. All I can say.

Thanks for all the repeated caffeine tips, but I don't need caffeine yet...
Anyone have a tip for how I can wake up from my 12:20 AM nap? I keep sleeping over in that nap, completely through my next nap and almost to the nap after that...
I think my problem is I keep forgetting to turn my alarm on...but it might be something else...

You said DRINKING caffeine
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-07-01 at 12:10:43
Fine, I meant I don't plan on eating/drinking/using caffeine at all
but seriously, got any tips for waking up from the 12:20 AM nap?

Go to sleep at your computer with the speakers on, put a 20 minute silence track on followed by a really loud heavy metal song.

That's the hardest for me, I just set my alarm and arm it with music.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-07-01 at 12:16:14
Well, I hate almost all music so that plan wouldn't work for me.
I also can't turn the alarm up since everyone else is trying to sleep!

Try to tape headphones to your ears and hook them up to your speakers. Download some kind of alarm system on your computer and set it to whatever time you wish to wake up. The music will blare into your ears only and you will be awoken.

Can you fall asleep with headphones? Replace music with some sort of very loud noise and BAM your awake.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-07-01 at 12:24:53
Nope, I can't even fall asleep with earplugs >.<
Yesturday I found a trick to fall to sleep easier and another trick to stay awake, but I still can't make myself wake up

Then it's perfect! You'll want to get up and turn it off!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-07-01 at 18:35:34
No it's not perfect, I can't sleep with anything in/on my ears, and I can't get on the computer after 10 PM (at least, not very often )

12 glasses of water.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Noober on 2006-07-03 at 19:07:57
Why doesn't the alarm work? Just remember to turn it on every time, and put it somewhere where you'd have to get up to turn it off, such as under the bed. Also make sure you have the kind that doesn't turn off until you manually turn it off.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-07-04 at 11:00:00
Thanks for the suguestion syphon, but I don't think I'll try that
I'm not really sure why my alarm won't wake me up, I guess it's because I'm too sleepy to hear it at night

ALSO CAN WE STOP THE SPAMMING PLEASE?

Well, I still havn't been able to get the sleeping schedule to work so I tried 2 of your ideas at once
I tried to sleep on the floor away from my alarm clock and couldn't fall asleep, so I guess I'll try this again in my night-time naps since I'll be much sleepier then
also, for those of you curious I've only gotten to where I sleep about 5-6 hours a day, that may not be much progress to yall but it's 2-3 hours less than before I started
