Stratego 1.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Popular Old World Game of Skill and Strategy, brought to StarCraft!

This game replicates ALL rules of the original Stratego for the board game, giving players the ability to play it online.

I used this great site as a primary resource, and I'd definitely recommend it:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specifications
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Players
•2 Players, for 1v1. There are 2 observers that can see both players.

-Map tileset/size
•Jungle, 64x64. Each square is alternating dirt/jungle in the 40 front squares, with raised jungle/bridge terrain alternating for the 12 squares in the middle. the rest is water. I think it turned out quite nice smile.gif

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Features
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Player Interface
Each player will have a corsair to control their peices with. You will only be in control of the corsair during your turn. Simply cast disruption web on a unit to select it, and cast again to de-select, move, or attack.

Each player has their own board for their pieces, having the enemy's peices copied onto theirs as civilians. This way, they cannot see what the enemy's pieces are.

-Making the Map:
-1509 triggers
-649 strings (though I didn't exactly try to minimize this)
-234 locations
-2 months.

The end product is super sweet, in my opinion, and will most certainly fufill people's expectations. I am open for suggestions on additions to add to a new version!

This map was made really well and is a very good map. I wish you could've done more with the minimap but that is a really small thing to worry about. I still have that replay of me beating you. tongue.gif

What do you suggest I do with the minimap? It's kind of busy with all the units and terrain, right now tongue.gif Did you play me with a version where it center views when the opponent selects their piece?

Thanks for the advice and compliments, though!

haha yea it was with that version. I was just thinking of what Clan Oo does with there minimaps, like take a look at warp defense.

It plays really well, but it might be hard for a person who's never played Stratego to pick up and play. I might suggest having the option to turn on a tutorial mode on the side of the map, maybe. More little interface features like text messages and centering on the Corsair when your turn arrives would be good too.

Urmom, I was never much of an aesthetics person. None of the units in this game have color in their names tongue.gif

Concerning tutorials and difficulty to pick up and play, I think the written tutorials are sufficient enough; if those aren't, someone I suppose could just turn on observer mode. If it becomes a persistant complaint, maybe I'll have to fix it up, but until then, meh.

Centering on the corsair when it's your turn wouldn't work since you wouldn't be able to see where your opponent moved. I could use some other sort of notification, though, I suppose, as long as it didn't get annoying.

And where do you suggest added text messages? I've played it a million times, so I recognize what comes easily to me doesn't to everyone else, so if you think something is too unclear I'll try to fix that up in a 1.1 update as well.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, you guys.
