Staredit Network -> Computers and Technical -> Setting up a simple Home Network

I'm having issues setting up a simple network between 2 computers, both running XP Pro SP2. They're connected with a switch, which is connected to our main router - connected to our adsl-modem, other computers etc.

I simply want to share files/printers from the 2 computers connected to the switch, so I ran the "set up a home or small office network" wizard. Going smooth on the first pc, I gave up a name & a workgroup name (for example PC1 - NETWORK). Then I ran the setup on the second pc, gave up another name (PC2) and the same workgroup name (NETWORK). Restarted both computers (multiple times).

On the first one, when I go to the network places, I see the "NETWORK" workgroup and in it PC1, no sign of PC2.

On the second computer, the "NETWORK" workgroup is nowhere to be seen, and "view network computers" gives me nothing, nada, njet. Not even the pc itself (PC2). When I checkout System though, and go to the computer name it gives "PC1" and "NETWORK" as workgroup...

What am I doing wrong?

What did you choose in the wizard?

Connects through a residential gateway, or connects directly to the internet. Should be a gateway.

Also, I don't know what protocol Windows XP uses, but it'd be on the safe side to install IPX. Go to Control Panel->Network Connections->Right Click Your Connection->Properties->Instal...->Protocol->Add->IPX.

It may be logged as like, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible.

You need to change the Windows Firewall to allow exceptions (go to windows firewall control panel and uncheck Dont Allow Exceptions.
