I was just thinking of a
crazy idea last night. I want to make a map using only 1 location. Then I was thinking, why don't I post a challenge on
SeN, and give prizes to the best map. I could make this kind of like a big contest, but with the monthly contest going on, I decided to give you enough time to make a map. I will give you a map type and you make that type using 1 location only. You may also use the "Anywhere" location, because it is given.
Theme is Defense + One LocationOh yeah, lets start these challenges off hard, there wont be much path turns in this Defense. Or complex choosers buying units. Easiest way to go is building your own units and commanding them. And you will be surprised how much you can do with just 1 location. Good luck.Hints:- Use your "Move Location" Triggers to move your location.
- "Set Deaths" of a unit when you move the location to know where it is.
- Use burrowed units so you can move the location to a spot and use it.
- Locations center from the top left of the map to the bottom right of a location you tell it to center from.
- Use hyper triggers to move the location faster for more accurate triggers
- Use death counts instead of "waits" for more accurate wait times
- "Set deaths of a unit to 12", then "always, minus 1 death from that unit", with 2 full hyper triggers is 1 second.
Use these hints to your own discretion, which means if these don't work on your map, you can't blame me for them not working.
Changed:
DEADLINE IS August 30[sup]th[/sup] MIDNIGHTGuidelines:» You may only use 1 location plus the "Anywhere" location
» You may submit a map made prior to the challenge.
» No map dimensions larger than 128x128.
» No map over 500kb.
» Any number of players acceptable.
» No team projects.
» No modded maps (SCMLoader, etc).
» You may submit as many entries as you want, but only the highest scoring entry will be placed and recieve a prize.
» No entry fees.
» It would be best not to protect your map, so if I think you used more than 1 location I can easily check.

Judging Criteria
Theme (10) - Obviously this one is important. If the map isn't even remotely related to the theme, it won't score very well. A map scoring 0 on this won't be graded further, regardless of how well it fits. Something that looks premade and just custom fit with a few text messages won't score very well.
Fun (25) - Important for me as I'm playing the map. Am I running around having a good time, or watching a unit talk to itself in a movie? Are there huge bugs that prevent play of the maps? If I ever go to this map again, is it going to be to play it with friends or to delete the scm/scx? This is usually the deciding factor in contest entries.
Professionalism (15) - Did you use one type of terrain tile? Are there mispellings distracting me at every turn with some poorly made triggers? Got a bunch of unit unplacable errors? Hopefully you can create something that looks and feels decent. I'm not asking for extensive extended terrain or hundreds of sprites, a map that seems well-made and bug-free scores very well. On the subject of professionalism, please PLAYTEST your maps before submission. Nothing looks dumber than a map that obviously hasn't been tested.
I would greatly appreciate donations for better prizes. All i got is around 600, so I will be posting alot to get more minerals for bigger prizes.
