I wasn't sure where to put this so it is going here. The concept is this, ProEdit > Uberation.

ProEdit: Compress/Protect reduced 800kb to 550kb, and the map works
Ube2: Compress/Protect reduced 800kb to 600kb, and the map doesn't work
Ube2: Compress only, the map still works, but is 200kb larger
Ube3: Press any button to crash.

This is 100% true it happened to me. Uberation blows.

This is not a concept, it's a program bashing thread. Which is strictly agaisnt the rules.

Perhaps I am wrong in my understanding that Uberation is currently the most popularly used protection/compression program here at SEN. However, I am quite certain that it is the most popular, and therefore this post hopes to expose the fact that even though those in power would have you believe that it is better, it is not. The common map maker does not notice that the program has screwed him over and that his map could be much smaller in size. I am here to let everyone know that ProEdit is still the better choice.

I started using ProEdit after I kept getting the nooks and crannies error from uberation then replacing all the water in my map with null tiles trying to figure out what was wrong. :l

Ube 3 seems like it was thrown together. Even the title makes it seem unprofessional.

blink.gif why wouldn't it go to staredit related? it doesn't belong in MMA(not a questions), concepts(not a concept), and ideas(no brainsotrming taking place). it belongs in staredit related because it has direct relevance to starcraft, but not any of the above mention forums.

We should start a poll about where this thread should be moved...

...But then we'd have trouble agreeing as to where to post the poll tongue.gif

Uberation 2 is good for one thing that no other editor that i know of can do, and thats EUDs which for the advance map makers are extremely useful at times, so its got one big plus but other than that i totally agree

Ok I was really bored when I read this so I decided to test it our myself. Used latest Uberation2, Uberation3 and Proedit. Test map had loads of units, sounds, triggers, strings, sprited and dodads.

Uberation2 protection & full compresion:

Uberation crashes while saving the file.

Uberation3 manual compresion:

I don't see any big differences except that U3 crashes upon certain compresions.

The results seem to vary, just follow the rule of thumb of making backups so you never have to regret doing something wrong.

Who actually protects his maps and then save them over the original files lol. tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2006-07-22 at 13:06:29
The newest version of ube3 has no-add protection solely for the use of compressing a map.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-07-22 at 14:21:20
The smallest filesize of U3 differs from U2 only by 2Kb. Maybe you should fix the final combo compresion and manual compresion instead? tongue.gif
