How to be a good newbFirst of all the term
newb means new person, but one can turn into a noob very quickly. A
noob is basically the worthless trash of the community that no one wants here, you can think of them as a newb that never learns. Minor errors would be forgiven but a serious offense due to stupidity will leave you with the stain of noob for a long long time. This guide will help you stay on the path to becoming a good member.
- Your first post in the welcome thread should show innocence
- l33tsp34k is not acceptable nor is posing as someone who has high intelligence
- Be polite, but not to the point where it is gay
- Posting in the right forum is key! If your first reply is "Wrong Forum" you have some serious brown nosing to do
A big factor in making the transition from newb to a well respected member of SEN would be to:
- Never "strongly" oppose moderators or people of high status
- If you must disagree with someone it is VERY important that you are ABSOLUTELY SURE you are right, if you are wrong then you are screwed, and must start from square one in earning respect
- You may voice your opinions but insults are a no-no
- Brown nosing is a good thing to do, when done in moderation
- Remember, respect must be earned, when you first join don't expect to be anything, you are just a newb who is nothing
- Start in non-serious/no-help type forums such as garbage where you do not need a Ph.D in mapmaking or science to have your opinion accepted
- If you have enemies within your first 10 posts then you are in trouble
- Immediately apologize to anyone who you dislike
- Gaining popularity is not done overnight, a good attitude is helpful
- ALWAYS read the FAQs and know the rules inside out, asking a stupid question like WHY IS ARMIES SHUTDOWN will promptly give you a kick in the buttocks
- Look at the "Dear Noob" file for what NOT to do
- Keeping a lowprofile in your early days as a member of SEN is good.
- You must concentrate on getting a good reputation, or at least not tarnishing your reputation with stupid posts what might affect others thoughts of you
- Remember! There are many people here that will pounce at the chance to correct a mistake! Being wrong is not an option! Double, Triple, and Quadrouple check your post before you hit that "SUBMIT" button
- Always stay on topic! That is key to gaining respect in the community as well
- Creating your first topic might be the BIGGEST moment of your life here, make sure it is a good topic and that you check it over carefully before you hit submit.
- Many new members will rush to get the highest post count possible, do not do this! Several posts a day is acceptable as long as they are of good quality! Remember quality not quantity.
- Most importantly a newb must have committment and a will to strive to become a good member
Slowly but surely if you follow these guidelines you will become loved in the community ^.^
I found this and thought it'd be nice to post it here. I think it's a great guide for many of you here at SEN (regardless as to how long you've been here).
