I come up with new and cool ideas a lot, but I can never stick to the task of a new map. It looks so daunting. Any help?

I have the exact same problem, here's what I do.

Finish the maps in the order of coolest and most finished, to not-so-coolest and least finished.

I have Light in the Darkness RPG (almost done!!!!), then I'm gonna make the combat-system based Demon Dragon's Voice RPG, then finish Elemental Dragon Wars, then Mechwarrior RPG, then my Doom RPG, then Elemental Den Defense, then Pirate Islands (like Space Pirate RPG, and zone control together, with a special combat system, it's by far the most daunting map I'm making), then finish Element Dragons RPG 4 and 5.

The Elemental Dragon stuff are the clan maps I'm making. So all in all, it's about 9 maps in the works biggrin.gif.

This might seem a little wierd, but I like to write down a checklist with a few easy tasks and 1 hard task per version.
Like--
Version 0.2
Fix no-medic bug
Colorize zerg names
Make 1 special attack
Create tagging system

Then I would do vers. 3 and so on. The hardest thing making a big map is the first few triggers. Remember, try to balance how much you work on terrain/units/triggers, so you don't do all the easy stuff and then think; Oh god. Now I have to do this. I'll uh... Do it later. *never does it*

Well I have the opposite problem, I can't think of any great ideas. I'd just sit down, staring at the computer screen thinking "c'mon inspiration". I recommend that you team up with someone, they'll help you keep on task.

Well I had that same problem, I guess I kinda got over it.

My theory:
You don't like working, so instead of getting one map done, you simply imagine other things. Stay focused on one idea. If you think of other ideas, just tell yourself, "they can wait until after this one's finished." Granted this sometimes doesn't work for me, so I don't know how well it may help you, but it has let me finish a few good concepts and maps.

draw your map ideas in paint and give them to the pro map makers....simple and effective!!!
