Summer Modding Contest
Brought to you by members of Clan [MM]

Host Message:"The idea was to revive the modding community from their summer inactivity and let them know that the computer is the right place to be, better than Canada, South America and even Europe wink.gif"

Ok so what is this?
It's a modding contest...duh

How do I enter?
Simple, just post in this thread that you are actually going to participate

What else?
As I know modding It's a very hard job, most of the people will not want to mod so I decided to set up a prize for the winners.

Is there an entry fee?
No, Totally free however, we are accepting donations.

Now here's some more specification as you all know we always need rules.

Rules:
+Mods must be submitted before the dead line (august 31th)
+You must say in advance that you are going to participate, if you quit you will have to let us know and if you made a donation it will not be returned
+You must not submit an already made mod, neither a mod that It's already in progress.
+Team Projects are allowed (no more than 2 persons)
+No Entry Fees, You may donate minerals.
+You may submit Updates
+You should not make you mod public, what if somebody steals your ideas?

Judging Criteria

Complexity
Was your mod easy to create? was It hard? It will be evaluated by the judges
This will be worth: 15 Points

This will be worth: 20 Points

Wouldn't it be more fun to create a mod that has crashes and bugs everywhere,
you could give the users a list of where the crashes are, so they have to find and fix as many as they can in the time limit.

I think that would be more fun and useful for modders, that way we can teach them to spot their own mistakes and fix them.

how would they win?
The users would be judged on how many crashes they fix, how fast they fix them, and how little is unchanged.

how much would each thing earn?
all crashes fixed - 50 points (if you have perfect score, otherwise is based on how many glitches where left)
ammount of extra things changed from original - 30 points (the lower the ammount the higher score)
time required - 20 points (each day subtracts 5 points from this, and it can go into negatives)

That would be most likely a modding marathon tongue.gif or a competition but hell it sounds fun. next time i'd come up with more creative ideas and will host them. maybe when voyager comes we'll discuss about an [MM] Contest that can involve various modding games instead of a modding contest, for now i invite people to join this contest tongue.gif

i wanna be involved. i was hoping for another modding contest smile.gif

just a few questions:

how is it going to be judged? (like a ffa battle of you and other players, ect)
What are the rules (such as we arent allowed to make invincible units)

Ill get started right away!

Well, I'm not judging (I think), but this is how I would do it:

- Evaluate Complexity, Content and Glitchiness by using a testing map containing every unit. Make sure they all work, etc. Check what units were modified.
- Evaluate Fun and Originality via a few FFAs.

I don't think that there's a rule against invincibility, but it would probably decrease the Fun score, since its no fun playing against an invincible unit.

Yep, voyager is right.
You can just make a 99999999999999999999x10^99999999999999 HP unitthat hits the same ammount +1.
But i find it pretty boring.
Remember Balance it's always a very important part in all games.
btw voy would you like to judge?

Good luck with this, and to all participants. If I had the time, I'd make a mod...but I'm sure you'd all rather me work on FG instead. smile.gif

Hey...I'm waiting to try to talk to DW...to help FG out. Hmmm...

Anyway, I did come up with one suggestion. When you test the glitchiness, I think you should also take into account the rarity of the glitch. Like, if you've got a sight over 11, that's a rookie mistake. But, something like an .lo? file missing a couple of offsets becacuse of grp replacements is more a intermediate-advanced mistake that some modders overlook. I've even seen a glitch when a supply depot has 0 supply given will crash...that's something that is an advanced mistake.

Heck, count me in. Got nothing to lose except my pride, and arguably not much of that to start with. tongue.gif Anyway, it's time to see what we can do with ICECC and DatEdit. DoA, go work on Firegraft; I'm waiting for it to start exe modding. Or maybe I'll start doing it with 13e just to improve my entry in this contest...

I think its morely the severity of the glitch and how it affects gameplay. And plus, if something crashes, they didn't test it enough, unless its something extremely specific that would only happen once every three years that we happen to come across tongue.gif And plus, if it does crash, that'll take down more than just the glitchiness score.

Although seriously, I didn't consider it since the Base Builder has no weapons, so its not a threat. tongue.gif
