Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> Melee Fortress

Some already know, I'm finally working on a UMS maps, melee based, of course. Anyone ever played Ender's Battle Room? It's about getting money ("money map"-type....) and then just sending your forces in combat after a certain time. If you lose the battle, the opponent gets the chance to assault the base. After a certain number of wins, the game ends, or you can also win by destroying your opponent's base. My idea on it? Great map. My appreciation? Bugged, unbalanced and money-map... So, since it's an easy map to make (seems easy...), I'm gonna try to make a better, bug-free map. Need alot of help tho. Why, you are asking? I dunno what a swich is... (for example)... bah

- My ideas:

- I will make the main battle arena space much bigger, so units can actually micro, and it's not all about Tanks being sieged first.

- Boundaries: No ####ing air units getting around the base and assaulting by surprise. "Lazyness", your saying? No, I think the map is majorly about fighting and microing, and not deffending your whole bases constantly.

- NOT a $$HAXX0RZ MONEY$$ map! Main bases DO have alot of mineral, for a long-life game, but you will have to expand to different places in order to keep some money-income.

- Much clearer way of learning, I'm just gonna use flags and beacon and crystal's names to indicate where to aim and what to do.

- When entering the ennemies's bases/territory, you will be on low ground, making it MUCH more difficult to get the base. Of course, you will have to defend your ramp if you want to live... Once again, the map is about winning battles and not just killing the opponent earlier.

That's all I can think of right now...
Oh, I was wondering, 2v2 map? 3v3? Or 4v4 perhaps? Right now I made it 2v2 (2 top, 2 bottom) but i've been thinking about it...

Map state:
Locations: 0%
Triggers: 0%
Terrain: 50%

-- Map: 16.5%

Comments? Thoughts? Everything welcomed!

I would make it on biggest map tileset possible. 3v3. And stick computers that just defend in all the expo's so that you have to work to get an expo also.

Biggest map tileset? I don't see why... Once of the reasons I make it 128x128 was cuz I hated the other tileset, it was too huge. I don't want the map to be empty either...

3v3 sounds fine to me I guess.

Excellent idea on computers defending happy.gif. It will complicate things a little though if I want to give them custom moves... Or I could just put in some cannons/bunks/sunks.

Well the idea was to make plenty of space between you and the computer players. And then make plenty of expansions for each team of three. I dont see how you can do that in 128x128...

Me neither ¬¬

I didn't think to put so many expantions anyway. I want to satisfy every players with this cuz I personally hate big maps; they are just... too big! You gotta scout like a Mike (a crazy man xD) and it's just pissing people off. My thoughts...

I'd like other people's oppinion on that, I might consider completly remaking the map...

I like Chu's idea, reminds me of "creeps" in WC3. Well, that would be one computer player, what would the other computer do if you use p12... What if you had 3 factions, you vs them vs the CPU... would be a lot more interesting... And I did play that map which was... dissapointing... I have high hopes on this one SP biggrin.gif Since you're such a great terrainer, I bet you can pull this off pretty easily...

PS. I think terrain is THE hardest part of making the map, so many combinations it's insane... Triggers are more direct, you get 1-2 ways of doing the trigger simply (smart way), or you can be creative and get the same trigger done in a couple other ways... GOOD LUCK SP! B)

Yeah, I dont think using the biggest tileset would be wise, in the version that is currently on B.net, there is a lot of excess space and is just being wasted, so etheir fill it with new ideas or just make a smaller map.

Its also good to see some new mapmakers, aside from the usual ppl.

Biggest tileset? Do you mean mapsize or the tileset with the most different tiles?!?!? And YdS, I am running a wireless lan thing at my house... so I think sometimes the connection might get screwed up and I really don't know what to do tongue.gif
