Any creative work is defacto copywritten when it's created and an unautorized user can be sued the hell out of.

Well, i'm pretty sure as far as copyrighting the name, if you simply right a letter saying like "i have come up with this name *insert name* for a video game series i am coming up with" and then mail it back to yourself, it qualifies as a copyright in court, since it will be stamped by the post office with an official U.S. date. so if you mail it to yourself and DO NOT OPEN IT, you will have all of your information with an official date all sealed in your envelop.

however, the actual like written down copyright for stuff is a bit beyond me.
