Do you want us to tell you what to use? If you can't afford photoshop, use GIMP, or just go old school with paint.

The trial version doesn't; that's kind of the point of a trial version. Obviously it won't be as good as the real thing, but the real thing costs an insane amount of money. GIMP is good and free, but it slightly messes up the indexed colors.

No, the trial version is exactly the same as the full version. Instead of limiting features, they put on a thirty-day time limit.
