Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> A Starcraft Odyssey
Report, edit, etc...Posted by funkybomber on 2006-08-11 at 18:52:37
Ok, let me start by saying that I wasn't going to post the campaigns here (there's nothing wrong with the forums, mind you!!). I had submited them to staredit.net about a month (or more) ago but they weren't accepted/nor rejected. I thought that the people here at staredit.net must have overlooked them, so I decided to submit them again (after I did some slight corrections also). I waited more than 9 days to see if there would be any reply but again, no luck.

I thought that I should contact someone but the people here have enough problems already! I might try to submit my campaigns again when all this hacker-mess is over. Who knows, I might get lucky!

Anyway, if you want to have a look at my campaigns, you can find them to my website (LINK IN MY SIGNATURE). Sorry for not putting the rapidshare link here, but I'd also like to hear your comments on my website (don't be too harsh)!

So, what should you expect in "A Starcraft Odyssey" ?

A possibe (alright, a not-so-possible) continuance of the Starcraft epic. The story picks up after the events on "Omega". That could mean some months after, or even a couple of years after (there is no strict time-frame). The only thing sure, is that most of the characters from Brood War are still alive and well, ready for the new circle of carnage!

Difficulty: Medium(?) - Extreme

The campaigns are for the war-torn veterans of Starcraft and Brood War. Average players (like me) will have a very tough time with them.

I've tried my best for my campaigns to be bug free but no one's perfect, so if you encounter any problems please let me know!

I haven't played them yet, but I looked through over half of them and they look very promising. Of course, you never know until you play it how it actually plays out. If I actually finish all these somehow (or even just a single campaign), I'll be sure to right a review for it. I'm very impressed with how many maps there are and how much work was obviously put into each one, and I figured that this topic deserved a reply, even though the maps won't be finished being played for a while.

For others, what I saw: majority are melee-based in some way, but this was the case with the classic campaigns too, so I had good first impressions if you just want to dive in playing them.

Is it possible to give any more info? What it sounds like is that you're trying to continue the storyline of StarCraft, although it sounds nothing like it.

Sounds nothing like it?! Perhaps I didn't do much of a good job explaining then. YES, I'm trying to continue the storyline of Starcraft.

As fritfrat(U) said, the majority is melee based. Most levels need you to "kill a building", "kill a unit" or "bring a unit to a location". In these missions the player starts with a base (or without a base, but with the capability of establishing one) and has to do a lot of fighting to meet the objectives. Then there are some levels in which the player has no base and must make due with the units he is given (such as the installation levels, but not only). These levels are very tricky. They can range from "ridiculously easy" to "ridiculously hard" according to the way that you'll approach them.
Other than that there maps where you must complete your mission before the time runs out, protect a building (and kill foes), a map with "defence" elements, one "movie" and a couple of "mining" levels. But in the end, it all comes down to melee smile.gif

What NOT to expect: diplomacy, arena, defence and the like. (For RPG I can't really say. A couple of my levels might be considered to have RPG elements, I don't know!)

Ok, I hope this info is enough. If you want to know more, just download and play!

Anyone had a look at them yet?

I'm sorry but double posting is agaisnt the rules here. We have something on message boards called edit which allows you to add anymore things you forgot or fix up a post.

As for the map, I have a thing for not downloading maps that I feel is gona have a low qualitie. As we all know if your continueing on the starcraft story make sure it really starts were it ended. Like duran's mystery, kerrigan ruling and the last starcraft alliance. Thats all I have to say.

For future references, you should include a thorough summary of your campaign (ie what to expect, more specifics, what makes this different from other campaigns, etc), as well as screenshots.

Also, the download should be easy. Going to your website, then having to wait to get it from rapidshare is very easy to deter the lazy, especially when your sales pitch isnt all that appealing.

Cool tongue.gif. An actual continuance from the STORYLINE, in which this is the fifth attempt. I hope this one is actually good, nontheless. Anyway, I 'avnt the time for this campaign, because I already downloaded another lol. I'll download this one and tell you what I think in a week or so.

I didn't forget to fix or post anything. It was just time I made another post. Btw I just checked the SEN rules and they mention nothing about double posting. So, according to the rules what I did was ok. If you want to change them that's another story. And also: there was a 1 week gap between my first and my second post. This can hardly be considered spamming.

Oh, and about you not downloading my campaigns: I can live with that.

I just wanted to get rid off of those who don't even want to try! tongue.gif
