This will definitely be a new idea.. but i know many people won't like it.
I constructed a poll to ask for how you guys think about the idea. If you people ever played diablo 2.. you know your screen is always fixed to the character. Would anyone like to see that idea (fixed screen on your unit) on rpg maps in starcraft?

(which means when you click move your unit to somehwere on the map the screen will follow, i personally think the idea it's awesome.)
Any comments welcome ^__^
I don't see that often but I love that gives the game a more...realistic feeling of some sort.
Yea i know, i always want rpg maps to feel realistic.. (dunno who said in the Urban Rpg post that i don't have the slightest bit of realism?!

) Instead of just turning off the vision of your team players this is what I could do to make you feel more like the character alone yourself.
Unshared ally vision is better than fixed screen.
Because of the choppy nature of sc, and you will be unable to use spells and other things when you can't move your screen.
thats what ima have to do on my Silver Moon Rpg im not copying ure idea but i HAVE to really. cause if i dont people will say this sucks because im not really putting effort into making it realistic and thats what my rpg is going to be about a little
It might sounds cool for some RPG's, not my type though, but I guess that can give Horror/Action maps a better feeling with playing

it would be great if you dont have to move your screen alot, like if you dont have any spells and you dont have to move your screen...but most rpgs have that, so i say no
This idea has been done so many times it's not funny. It's not new.
Anyways, it is annoying how the screen moves jaggedly. If it moved more smoothly then I'd definantly say yes. When it moves all jagged-like, it just hurts my eyes.
its only good for an RPG is about u
U go to the store buy guns and stuff thats good
when ur fighting an empire its a horrible idea
Well, it could work in RPGs where you have to enter stores and buy upgrades and heals manually. As for spells, thats pretty much outs for obvious reasons.
If you want to have spells, items and stuff a friend of mine suggested this.
Have all the spells cast by building units (short build time...)
Tell the player to hotkey those buildings
Have a confirmation point so they can confirm the buildings are hotkeyed
Center the view once this is set.
You could have a place in town where you could re-hotkey if you messed them up somehow as well.
For limited items, you could use the supplies of 3 races and minerals/gas all seperately, and then have the spells cast or fail depending on whatever else. The player can't see all over the map, so they won't see the overlords/supply depots/pylons off in some corner... you could have units to round out the supply amount (marines in a corner or something) so they would only have 1 or 2 supply free, and remove a marine when they picked an item up, create one when they use one. The minerals and gas are easier to think about.. but there are less of them. You could also just remove the units if they don't have any of the item in inventory.
Nice idea Stereo. That or use the "Dropship Method."
I've seen this idea before, and i have to say that every time i'd seen it used, i wished that they didn't do that.
I simply can't stand not being able to scroll my screen around in a game where your screen was designed to be scrolled around. In diablo 2, your example, the game was programed with the intent to center the screen on your character. they gave a much larger map area for you to utilize in keeping track of where you are. While the idea is definatly workable, i simply find it detracts somewhat from the enjoyment of the map for RPGs.
although, i agree it might be a good idea for horror type maps or suchlike. =)
Diablo had a map so it was easier

But it really depends on the RPG
Starcraft has a mini-map.
Not really reliable; works well if its a small map, but in this instance, its probably going to be a rather large map, so that would barely help.
most rpgs are 256x256, so it wouldnt be a good idea to fix your screen on your hero
