i say all except lots of killing and overpowering. GOod Rpg MUST have good storyline. i think that makes the best rpg. But good rpg needs to have all the qualties that was mentioned in the poll.

Definetly storyline, and thats why my RPG will own.
A Storyline is the secense of any good RPG, it makes it interesting and makes you wonder what will happen next.

The main focus on an RPG is story line, without it your RPG will never get off the ground. But there are other important things too, like making sure the spells are fair and add an extra fun element to the game, and also making sure all the units are balanced and well rounded so everyone can enjoy the game equally!

This Should be true but it is not. Most of the RPG's on battle.net have little or no storyline. In fact, some RPG makers don't even attempt to add a story. Although obviously most people on this site want storylines, the fact sadly remains that on Battle.net many people are just to lazy to play games where they might have to think for a few seconds, and would rather just play easy maps where they bash through hordes of enemies.

I agree that it takes a story to make an RPG. But a lot of people don't care.

I voted other. I would want good storyline, and good spells and abilities. And maybe some over-exaggerated killing will do too tongue.gif

It has to be fun, and have more of the advanced stuff ie dropship sys, some detail on terrain, some attempt at balance.

But fun and humor would be a major plus. No shoddy work though.

I just can't help smiling, I totally agree with you Kevjak.
I hate it when I log on to B.net and when I pressed Alt+J I see a whole bunch of rubbish in front of me(Zergling Blood!/Free Beer!)
No one like good maps.
The just like massing.
What is good of it?
Absolutely stupid.
Get good maps!
Play them!

the only reason I can able to play rpgs is because of the storyline. of the storyline sucks, whats the poing of playing?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by iamandragon on 2004-08-04 at 01:40:55
True, but some RPG maps, like Fate and Destiny have a crappy storyline but people still plays it a lot.

A good RPG Needs a Good Story-line...a boring

"The master killed your dad..go kill him"

That sucks....And a good story-ling

"The master Of all mutants...Has Slain your Father...He was fighting off a mass of mutans when he was captured and then tourtered and killed by the mutants..it is your duty to slay the maser of all mutans to avenge your father

Now thats better cool1.gif

But..also...A good RPG needs...A lot of walknig around <---If this means going around mindlessly looking at things and playing around with stuff

Yeah...Walking around alot sounds like fun..if it means like exploring..and doing something else rather than your main mission...is kinda fun..rather than a straight path to your objecticve...have a few obstacles...and a big city in the way...

As most of us already said, "A storyline is what makes it a good RPG."
Report, edit, etc...Posted by linux_junkie on 2004-08-04 at 05:18:29
A storyline does NOT make it a good RPG, in SC. While it helps, in SC the gameplay setup is much more important. Honestly, I get a bigger kick out of a good spells system, since it can make gameplay rich and varied. While a REALLY good story can help, it can't pull the game through. Let's face it, SC is just not the best medium for storytelling.

My list of things needed to make a terrific RPG:

- A decent story
- No game-screwing bugs
- Functional, efficient game mechanics (spell systems, etc.)
- Aesthetics (terrain, doodads, and more recently sprites)
- Fun to play

Things i think would make a great RPG:

-A good storyline
-Make balanced heroes, /w some spells and abilities
-Make nice terrain! and make it a natural 1. Add doodads and stuff that makes the terrain look natural
-Dont make enemies too hard to kill, or dont make them do so much dmg that they kill you in 2 hits. Or both
-MAKE IT FUN!!!!!!!!!!! tongue.gif

Lucky no one voted for 'lots of killing/overpowering', that's one of the element I hate in RPG.

Yah walking is cool, but some RPG make walks too long--I've played an RPG where you have to walk back and fro a zillion times before you can do ONE single thing. Forgot what is the map, though it sucked.

My RPG map has much less walking around. Players teleport to their destination directly between chapters--only some chapters when they need to do bounds there is some walking.

Rescently I'm making a plot heavy RPG... but hell if it'll ever be popular, people on the outside have no respect for good games.

For Storyline people
Dageor's RPG was a good game. but i dont rember a story....
I think what u can do in an RPG decides if its good or not.
IF you can enter buildigns thats a plus
IF the town moves thats a plus
IF the outcome of the RPG changes acording to ur desions thats a plus

Just the limitations. If the RPG is too wide like ur not even sure what u do they say: MAKE UP UR OWN STORY
Well we cant really make up our own story because we didnt make the map. And if its too minual like: Hey cool a goblin cage.. NO THATS NOT PART OF STORY U CAN NOT INTERACT WITH AYTHING BUT THE ROAD AND UR ENEMIES! Then is sucks

So i picked other
