ok i got it working biggrin.gif

Does anyone know how to work the triggers in it?
Cause i cant
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Kevjak.oO on 2004-08-03 at 17:27:59
Too work trigger just type the trigger You want to do followed by open parenthesis[Example: CreateUnit( ]

Then on top of trigger dialog box it will tell you all the fields you need to enter data for.

Enter the fields in this format [ CreateUnit(1,Marine,Location45,P8); ]

make sure the semicolon is at the end of all strings.

for a preserve type preservetrigger(); since there is no fields to enter data in

and for a text or comment put "" marks around it like this:

[ Comment("Hyper Trigger); ]

EDIT: This is a kind of weak tutorial I know, but if you read this with starforge open you should understand what I'm reffering to.

is it possible to just leave my terrian and units where they are and do triggers in SCXE biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-08-03 at 17:50:41
The best i do is to do the terrain and the trigger on X-tra then after you put color and sprite with SF!

The best for me... wink.gif

I wouldn't recommend using starforge for triggers at all, it is terrible at them, half the time it will link triggers comment's, delete triggers, or completly ignore any triggers you made in it. Just use X-tra for triggers.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-08-03 at 17:55:08
silent...do you know how to use the triggers? crazy.gif

but I still have the error on mine, it says file not found and runtime error..which is weird because I ran starforge before.

Theres a quick tutorial-like thing on Starforge triggers in the mapmaking tips topic. And triggers work fine for me once I figured out how to use them; the first couple of times I was missing the "" for text, as well as the ; thats needed at the end. Then more times that I shouldve, I forgot to set a player for the trigger, so I kept remaking them over and over wondering why it wont save. ;[

I can't belive all the posts above me.
SF Triggers rock, you can put all players till 256, it's easier to use and it's text base no need for clicking.

I can work triggers faster in SF than in SCXE.
In SCXE you have to click everything and it takes time.
Instead why not write the triggers with SF?

A little tip on SF Triggers.
When writing a trigger above the Condition box in that little space it tells you what you need to complete the trigger.

StarForge IS the best editor out there!!!!!!!! tongue.gif It's much easier to make triggers because you could just make one line of text to form ONE trigger, then copy and paste it. Unlike StarForge, SCXE takes to longer to do triggers. For instance, pretend you are making a bound and you have to do create/kill units at 8 different locations. It would be WAYYYY faster to do them in StarForge.

If you don't have StarForge 2.1, you should get it. It has faster mini-map scroll and an error was fixed in the trigger editor. The downfall of 2.1 though is that the mini-map has darker colors.

Oh my censored.gif ing god...

1. You can't say something you havn't used sucks even though it's the best thing that happened to Starcraft.

SCXE is what sucks, it has newbie trigger editing(WOOT! CLICK AND DRAG!), can't change colours, can't add sprites, won't even display sprites, can't do anything for players 9-256, can't do life over max, can't do terrain at all(very limited terrain), can't do triggers for players 9-256, can't place units for players 9-256, limited to 50000 resources, limited to 9999 hp and shields, limited to +9999 attack for upgrades, limited to 201 units, can't stack, can't snap to grid, can't do sizeless sounds.

Here we go, time for Starforge. Advanced triggering(You type them out and can do things for players 1-256), can change player colours, can add up to 512 different sprites and able to disable them, unlimited to all players(1-256), can do 2 methods of life over max, be able to set negative hp or 0 hp, has unlimited terrain(Able to place all available pieces of terrain, place square/isom terrain, change size of brush, make custom brushes/doodads, make enhanced-looking terrain), can do triggers for all players(1-256) and set numbers higher than SCXE can go up to and use units in triggers SCXE can't even use, can place units for players 1-256, limited to 65535 resources, limited to 8388607 hp, limited to 32767 shields, limited to +65535 attack for upgrades, limited to ????? units, can stack up to the map's max units, can snap to grid and even make custom sized locations smaller than 1x1, can do sizeless sounds and use them in triggers correctly and easily, has a string editor, can place map revealers, can make oddly-sized maps, can set player's race to independant/Inactive/Neutral etc., can place computers and humans in the same force, can place Start Locations in the game(Start Locations own all), can set build time to 1/15th of 1(1 as in SCXE build time which equals 15 in SF build time), and a hell of a lot more.

WINNER???: Starforge
Cost: A few bugs(Woop-di-doo a couple bugs, big deal. It's still way better than SCXE).

Clokr_'s future editor: Everything unlimited.

NEW WINNER: Clokr_'s future editor.
Cost: $25 because you decide to pay him because it's so censored.gif ing good.

Finally some sensible people in this thread! First, SF triggers alllow you to copy/paste/cut - which is so useful. You can even copy out into a text editior and use find and replace. It makes creating a bunch of repetitive triggers that are just slightly different sooo much easier. Not to mention you can change player colors, stack evenly, and place P9 - P256 units. Everything you need all in one edititor. (except the leaderboard error, or was that fixed in 2.1?)

You didn't quote me. tongue.gif

I believe Starforge triggering needs to be "redesigned" so it has a text document interface and so the screen can be resizable(But is bigger by default). I also think when you press CTRL+C to copy a number in theunit properties, it doesn't copy all of the properties because I only want one number. Also so that you can select a range of units and "Mass edit" one stat instead of the damage, health and everything. Maybe clokr_'s future editor will have this. tongue.gif tongue.gif

Sorry, you posted while I was in the middle of writing my post. wink.gif Also Clokr_ 's editior should use the OnError script to create a custom error window instead of crashing the program.

I don't know if someone else has said this yet but DO NOT MOVE THE EXE FILE!

When you need to make a link on your desktop right click it and go to create short cut. Sinced you moved the exe the program is looking for the dll file on your desktop.
