Ok so just recently I had to reinstall starcraft because I downloaded that program (not Scdowngrader) which patches starcraft to old versions but then it messed up and when I uninstalled it, it left starcraft with many glitches so now I uninstalled starcraft and I installed regular starcraft and now im trying to install brood war but since its scratched I need help on how to clean it.
Because normally at times my cd would make "dio, dio" sounds and would freeze up.

Same thing happened to my old starcraft CD (Which was around 6 years old). It stopped installing at stardat.mpq and would never finish. I ended up paying 5$ for a new CD on E-bay.
In a simular situation, I used a tissue and lightly whiped the shiny surface in circular patterns. Concentrate on every section for a little bit. Should help.
DO NOT use sand paper to clean your CD

I've seen many things for it; a dab of apoxy glue in the cracks, (be sure only just enough to level it out again), wipe it with toothpaste then clean it off..

um, i'm pretty sure that you're supposed to clean 'against the grain' - as in from outside rim to inside rim?
ADDITION: i've heard good things about toothpaste, although i'd personally never do that to one of my CDs.

Well I was at somewhat of a party, and we were watching a somewhat scratched pirated DVD, and the girl who's dvd it was put toothpaste on it and it worked.

The same thing someone told me was to use toothpaste but im scared that if I mess up it wont work and I wont be able to finish my map. Well serves me right for downloading that starcraft patcher, it messed up starcraft so I had to reinstall it but now my brood war wont load it

Try using SCD to replace your StarDat/BrooDat mpqs.

Either download a Starcraft cd .iso from DC++ or torrents, or buy a new cd as merrell said for 5$.

My solutions: Fixed Exe or an MDS/MDF. (Same as an iso, takes up less room.)

Were do I download that and what is it anyway. Cause my cd works perfectly except it is scratched. And if it doesnt work today I wont be able to finish my map. And when I was looking at Ehow.com there was one part saying use toothpaste and then the other said dont use toothpaste. Ah can someone do a test and see if that really works.

Uhh, as if the 30 mbs or so make a difference. .ISOs are the best format though... =\
No offense, but I'm not sure JordanN knows how to download via torrents or anything similar...
I would just recommend getting a new CD... it's like 5 dollars..

As for the ISO I can't remember the safe sites anymore as last time I went to one I got a virus. But all I need to know is the best way to clean the cd because if I could get my camera out I can most certainly show you the lines.

You may have to get a new CD anyways, you might as well try something.

But I dont have the ISO even though the main discussion is about the cd itself. Theres no need to buy a new cd cause it needs cleaning not damaged. For example. I tried 5 times today to install brood war but it keeps skipping on star.dat and brood.mpq. Not sure why. And now when I insert my regular SC cd into the drive it says something like cannot reach arr/ program or whatever maybe because it was installing brood war but it already knows its there but not the files itself. Man I hate this today.

You DC++ is not virtual drive program, it's file sharing system. You search and download the .iso via DC++.

Feel free to soap and water a CD clean. Dry with a paper towel and try it again, that's how I clean my CDs. (when I started using computers I didn't know about CD-RWs, so I would keep soaping and watering to erase an AOL CD so that I could store stuff on it, KEKE)

How to repair a CD:
Step 1
At first, remove any dust from the CD. Then, put it in the freezing camera for 3 days.
Step 2
Get it out, put it in warm water so the ice comes off. Slowly put 3 mm of Silicone on it. Wait until the Silicone gets dry. After that, remove the silicone. Now you have completed the cleaning part.
Step 3
Take your CD, and put jam on it, as shown here
...and leave it like that for 1-2 hours in the freezer. The jam will get into the cracks and will help concrete not to fall off. Step 4
After the jam is frozen, take it off by using a knife. Put concrete on the CD and remove the unneeded concrete. Wait until concrete gets solid. Step 5
Use Montage Glue to glue a piece of glass to the CD. The glue will be dry in about 24 hours.
OK, I was really bored

Oh common, how do you guys clean your cds whenever a problem like this for example happens. I'm going crazy now . The worst part is I can't make any maps because they require brood war files.

Well, ok. I'll say how I clean my CDs. First step is I don't scratch them. Second step is I don't touch anything but the middle and the sides, so I don't get fingerprints on them. Third step is the most important. I don't leave them lying around, unless they are (or will be) in immediate use.
