Ive been working on alot of square terrain, terrain made from putting together pieces of isom that dont exactly blend, but still get the job done and look cool doing it. I was thinking of posting my square terrain work. However, i then remembered the lack of reguard for effort and feelings, and also the lack of reguard for square terrain. I say this because i havent seen anyone really posting square terrain, its more primitive forms labeled as tile smashing. However, i find that specificly in the badlands tileset, mainly for city scapes, also in space using platforms, that square terrain is quite cool.
Its like anime and MGM style cartoons, they are different in style but are both unique and art in their own way. However i fail to see if anyone on SEN has any appreciation for square terrain.
So i ask:
What do you think of square terrain? Like it? Hate it? (God knows wooden is going to blast me. Id personally figure DEAD might like it.)
My Square terrain: (Please do not rate. Most of them are WIPs)

Screenshots?
And why would you make square terain from ISOM??? When you can just put square terain on with SCMDraft and StarForge
Added SS of square terrain ive made.

Ew, the blockiness is awful. Use Isom or something.
The 3rd building is cool looking but use isom next time

I asked that you please not rate.
@Ducky square terrain isnt meant to blend much. As i said, this is not extended, its different. I personally find square terrain making cool-looking and entertaining.

Square terrain is good ONLY if you are using it for a simple arcade-style map. Maps like bounds, cat and mouse, etc.
Even though square terrain "can" be good, it doesn't mean its always good. I don't think blocky terrain should be used to make a "structure" or "building." It should be simple and used to create paths and trails.
The square terrain you are using is making the buildings flat in some kind of strange way. I don't like that, ISOM has more depth because it tries to manipulates the brain that there is layers that are higher and lower than others, square terrain fails on doing this, that's why I do not look at square terraining as a way to prove skills.
This is to clarify what i mean when i say Blocky Terrain CAN look good in arena maps
First and second, really good IMO. Last one should be redone.
Nice geometrical shapes lol.
Well not as much resistance on it as i expected. The reason i use square terrain for city-scape, is because i find that ISOM is lacking what i want to do, and i also despite my best efforts, cant find blends that suit what i need done, hence using square.
The last picture was hurriedly done as i was seeing what i could do mixing in pieces of a paticular doodad, im still working on it.

It's like random mirrors put together. There are things in it that are not mirrors and can be blended, you didn't blen those though.

Im not looking to blend them. In short what im trying to say is Blocky isnt always bad.
-Le0n
mostly it is.. look at dead's 3d buildings almost no blockyness and it looks great it gives the 3rd effect
You might not think that blockiness like that is bad... But in my opinion it looks like random tiles smashed together.
I have interior terrain that can be used for Bounds, Arena maps, and many other maps that usually used blocky terrain to convey the terrain required.
There is no excuse for unblended terrain to be used unless it is an aid to minimap-terrain... So many blends out there that I haven't found could be used instead of choppy, blocky, unprofessional terrain...

I don't like it. It's not that bad if you look at it from the distance, but having such terrain in a map is not cool if you ask me.

Well, who plays Starcraft a few meters away from the screen?!
I like the last one, no matter how bad they look most people couldnt make them (including me)
