StarCraft - Field Command Beta 4.5
Welcome, my friends, to the first official mod review! Seeing as the forum is located in the "general StarCraft editing" section, I figured this was allowed. In these official mod reviews, I (or anyone else who wishes to write one) will review a StarCraft Modification. And although there have been mods in this forum before, I haven't seen an actual full review for one.
For anyone who doesn't know what a modification is, let me explain in simple terms:
A modification changes the way starcraft is structured and played. Almost anything can be changed in a mod. Graphics, weapons, sounds, portraits, etc. can all be changed.
Those few points aside, on to the review itself!
Field Command is a total conversion, greatly changing the way the game is played (that's a plus for me). It puts you in the position of a terran commander, and you can choose between five terran factions: The Confederacy, The Umojan Protectorate, The Sons of Korhal, The United Earth Directorate and Raynor's Raiders. This is an unfinished version, and the Terran Dominion will be coming later.
Each race has its own special abilities/tactics used to win. For example, the Umojan Protectorate uses advanced technology to destroy its opponents.
Description aside, lets move on to the review itself.
Awesome creativity, Voyager. I've never seen anything like the choosing of the races like that before. Great units, spells, etc. Now, the casual reader might be thinking "If its so great, why is it 7/10?" Well, although it is very creative, each race seemed very similar. Break the mold, Voyager!
The ideas Voyager came up with himself were incontestably original, however he didn't come up with the race names so I can't give him full points
Although there are custom graphics, Voyager didn't make them himself, so this doesn't really apply
This is true for most mods, but it is extremely complex. Being a modder myself, I know the amount of work that had to have gone into this project. Go Voyager!
Although this is an extremely fun mod, I have a bone to pick with Voyager! Invincible builders = NOT FUN AT THE END OF THE GAME!!! It is extremely aggrivating having to try to hunt down every building that the player has across the map while the invincible scv keeps buildings more.
Overall (Not Average): 8/10
Great mod, Voyager, but in the final release, fix up a few of those things I've mentioned and you should be able to get an easy 9-9.5. Go Voyager!
