Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Money Maps...a Revolution To StarCraft

Money maps--the defination:
A map where all player start at their base with a lot of minerals stacked on top of each other, all with 50,000 minerals. They're often very close to your Command Center/Nexeus/Hatchary.

I personally agree. Before money maps come out it is rare to see a Battle Cruiser amageddon consisting of 24+ or them. Nor you can find 400 Zerglings/100 Dragoons. It completely gives melee games a new vision, where the mass attack is more large-scale and intense.

Money maps brings a new player genre--the turtlers. Because they have infinate money, the turtlers do not need to expend and simply have to defend their one base with concentrated force. The compound is branched from turtlers, too!

money maps are gay. anyone who plays it (unless it's for backstab or something) obviously sucks at the game. it brings nothing but bad habits.

A revolution doesn't need to be good. As long it brings new things, it's a revolution. Cheeze, please dont insult people with words like 'suck'. Many players like money map because of the bizzare situations they can land on. I personally enjoy being seiged by 100 seige tanks while trying to fight back with 100 zealots.

They did start a revolution - They opened up new realms of strategy. Unfortunately, they closed off many realms as well. We all know that you have to use real skill and talent to win a fight against an evenly-matched player on a ladder map. If the same players played a money map, much of the strategy would be gone. Good micromanagement is needed on a ladder map, but on a money map you don't have to manage your abilities barely at all, since you can, for instance, make 10 or 12 Dark Archons and Maelstrom an entire Zerg army. That's not a viable option in a ladder map. The limitations in StarCraft are what make it challenging.

Revolution? Certainly not now, nor recently; moneymaps have been out for years now, and it has done a couple of things.

First off, it made playing public games on battle.net a pain: your best bet is to play at night, when moneymaps arent as plentiful and real map show up. That or to play with friends.

Second, its basically killed off most ideals needed in a starcraft game for those players. To sum those up, micro and macro. They dont have to worry about unit management, since they got basically an unlimited source, nor would they care for expansions for the same reason.

Third. With the above said, moneymaps have drawn a big bold line between the good players, and the bad. Yeah might get all whiny and say you have skills and like moneymaps, but you shouldnt even be talking if youre playing moneymaps.

Theyve been a leech to the game; they have been, and they will continue to be so. Moneymaps arent a new thing.

you like the scenario, sure. but you still suck at the game. so I say you suck. (you=...people happy.gif)

Suck isn't that inappropriate, but I found the use of "g4y" to be highly incorrect. Nowadays, that has the same effect as calling the game a "N-Word" or some other racial slur. Being sucky has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

PS: Moneymaps suck. biggrin.gif

Arg! I hate money maps with a passion. They break the gameplay balance that Blizzard has painstakingly perfected since release day. Only newbs play money maps. Real men duke it out on maps that require skill, like Lost Temple and the Killing Fields.

Money maps completely destroyed Starcraft. I have no censored.gif ing clue on who wanted to destroy Starcraft...

I wouldn't go so far as to say they completely destroyed SC... but they did degrade the quality of bnet. Everytime I feel like a quick melee game, as a break from my usual UMS playing, all I see are censored.gif ing money maps. Once in a great while there is a real map, like LT or something. Not enough real men left on bnet. Arg.

They bring so much use into SC.
1)Gathers all noobs to play it!
2)The maphackers too!
3)The backstabbers!
4)They stay out of our Melee and UMS Games!
5)I don't have to argue with a wall!

And they sacrifice all of this, so we can have a good time without them smile.gif

i was playing with my friend, now i prefer non-fastest maps but he cant stand tehm. He got to ladder games by fastest but he wont play the ladder games since the minerals are far away and the game plays slower. now normally in the money maps (since im not used to working so fast with all of my money) i get whooped by him, but put him and I in an LT map, and ill kick his censored.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-08-04 at 20:49:01
normal maps are not slow. on fastest maps we see a lot of nr 20. which is really sad. 20 minutes to max?? no attacking??? LOL.

I maxed in 20 minutes on a regular map while fighting someone. (or 22 minutes but samething) er..someone refers to minimoose happy.gif

I think its pretty obvious from all the replies in this topic.

As for you thinking moneymaps are some kind of revolution... youre new to Starcraft, arent you?

No I'm not new to SC, just...trying to get all of us to look at things from different angle. Obviously I failed.

Money maps are good for getting a hold on the basics of the game and for trying funny strategies.

I suggest when you get the hold of the game create public 1v1 LT games. Not many pros play public games, but it's posible a couple of experts migh pop in.

there is no angle. money maps simply take out all the good things starcraft was meant to have. no expanding, no micro, no strategies. all it is is macro. nothing more. which is why i dont' understand why people think it's so fun to play. i think it's addicting =/

Oh common, everything has a different angle. It's just you can't find it yet.

The way I see it money maps were the worst thing that has happend to SC Melee. They are for "money-hungry" people who want to haste their gameplay through use of a fancy editor.

Cant go against this, really; when Im waiting for my friends to sign on (theyre slow), I join a quick game of "ZC 6v6 NR60 xPeRtZZZ oNLi!!!11shift+1!" and either backstab em (I dont care; they had it coming for sinking this low without knowing it) or mass engineering bays and rush them with that.
