Okay, I've done this before and it's generated a decent amount of posts, so here's the deal. I post the song and lyrics and you figure out what it means. In this case, I have a rough idea on what it's about, but you can go ahead and take a stab at it. I'll post what I think it means after a few posts.

KT Tunstall - Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree (Just mute the ad, idk why it's there but it'll go away when the ad's over)

two, three, four

(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)

well my heart knows me better than i know myself
so i'm gonna let it do all the talking.
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)
i came across a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree.
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)

i fell in fear, upon my back
i said don't look back, just keep on walking.
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)
when the big black horse that looked this way,
said hey lady, will you marry me?
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)

but i said no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me
no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me

(ooooo,woo-hoo)

and my heart had a problem, in the early hours,
so it stopped it dead for a beat or two.
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)
but i cut some cord, and i shouldn't have done that,
and it won't forgive me after all these years
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)

so i sent her to a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree.
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)
now it won't come back , cause it's oh so happy
and now i've got a hole for the world to see
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)

but it said no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me
no, no, no,no-no-no
said no, no, you're not the one for me

(ooooo,woo-hoo) (not the one for me, yeah)
(ooooo,woo-hoo)
said no,no, no,no, no, no, no
you're not the one for me
said no,no, no,no, no, no, no
you're not the one for me

big black horse and a cherry tree
i can't quite get there cause they've all forsaken me
big black horse and a cherry tree
i can't quite get there cause they've all forsaken me

So what do you think it means?

What it means? mm...The singer's heart was used over his/her head, and refused the horse's proposal..so..I don't know?

Don't just look at it literally, look at symbols and what things might represent.

I'm actually rather confused about this... It seems to switch perspectives.

For example it says:

"when the big black horse that looked this way,
said hey lady, will you marry me?"

Implying that the singer is a lady.

However, later it says

"so i sent her to a place in the middle of nowhere"

So is the singer a lesbian? Me=confused...

You expect what modern teenagers throw their lives into to have anything near the depth and complexity of a well-written novel? *snort*

The song's lyrics suck.

Why do you need a meaning? Maybe the guy just wasn't good at writing song lyrics. Anyways, I have a better song to analyze.

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall by Bob Dylan

[sub]Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.[/sub]

Every song ever written is about sex.

This one happens to be the kind about Mexican teen bestiality.
---

"well my heart knows me better than i know myself
so i'm gonna let it do all the talking."

I'm pervented, but I'm not ok with it.

"came across a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree."

I walk out into the Mexican desert to find a thrill for my depraved wants. I find a young women on a table under a horse.

"i fell in fear, upon my back
i said don't look back, just keep on walking."

I like it, but I'm ok. I wana watch, but it's a horse.

"when the big black horse that looked this way,
said hey lady, will you marry me?"

I released this is a beautiful thing, and wanted to spend the rest of my days with this young women and her horse.

"but i said no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me
no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me"

But I wouldn't admit it to myself, of no. No I wouldn't. So I ran.

"and my heart had a problem, in the early hours,
so it stopped it dead for a beat or two.
(woo-hoo,woo-hoo)
but i cut some cord, and i shouldn't have done that,
and it won't forgive me after all these years"

I regret having ran away on that woman... It was wrong.

"but i cut some cord, and i shouldn't have done that,
and it won't forgive me after all these years"

SO I TRY TO HANG MYSELF w00t.gif But I realise I'm in the wrong, and run back to Mexico...

"so i sent her to a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree."

...Just in time for the money shot.

"now it won't come back , cause it's oh so happy
and now i've got a hole for the world to see"

The horse got me from behind on our honeymoon. Loose colon.

(Rest of lyrics.)

Me and the woman had some problems, so I ran off with the horse.

^ That makes so much sense it's scary.

All right, Wilhelm, please don't post new lyrics in this topic. Thank you.

What I got from it:

"well my heart knows me better than i know myself
so i'm gonna let it do all the talking.
i came across a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree."

She doesn't quite understand how to phrase it, so she'll let her heart say it in the way it saw/felt it. She got put into a situation where there was sex (and possible loss of virginity, CHERRY tree...). Black horses often represent sex or sexual desire.

"i fell in fear, upon my back
i said don't look back, just keep on walking.
when the big black horse that looked this way,
said hey lady, will you marry me?"

She wanted to get out of the situation, but on her way out, she was confronted by the horse [man] and was asked to marry him [or have sex with him].

"but i said no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me
no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me"

She says no. You're not the one I want [to lose my virginity to, if that be the case, or just have sex in general].

"and my heart had a problem, in the early hours,
so it stopped it dead for a beat or two.
but i cut some cord, and i shouldn't have done that,
and it won't forgive me after all these years"

She ended up having sex with the man, and she deeply regrets it.

"so i sent her to a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree.
now it won't come back , cause it's oh so happy
and now i've got a hole for the world to see"

Her being the heart, she gave her heart to the man to 'show' her heart why she didn't want him, and now she's got "a hole for the world to see", being the hole in her chest where her heart was.

"but it said no, no, no,no-no-no
i said no, no, you're not the one for me
no, no, no,no-no-no
said no, no, you're not the one for me"

The heart finally agrees with the singer.

"big black horse and a cherry tree
i can't quite get there cause they've all forsaken me"

I honestly don't have a single idea about what this line means.

The last line is the horse has stretched her out so madly she can no longer reach climax.
