Seeing as that this has been mentioned several times I have taken the time to write this up to prevent some minor or even flame posts about people who post wrong things.

What is a maps in production

*Well for those new come'eres a map in production is really a thread that is to help many users like us organize a project in a simple place. We may get some tips, ideas and even concepts.

So what should I do with this awsome place!

*Well then here you can post a topic containing information about your upcoming map. But just before you hit that new topic button, think about these 3 steps.

Number one: Am I really ready to plan on a map.

This might sound offset but it can be true. Even at times there were areas where I feeled that I might of not be ready for this huge an exciting map.
Example: My ride of the vultures map. I felt I was ready but with my low expirances back then I would never of accomplish it. But now since I'm more skilled I can do it anytime soon biggrin.gif

Number two: Does this seem like a good Idea?

May sound like number one but whatever your posting is it really good material that will apeal to most starcraft users rather then a map that might offend some members? And even so does it have a good amount of information? Rather then just RPG or Arena?

Number three: Style and content

Now either if your posting an information on an existing map or just starting one make sure to list some of the main plots, enemies or villians of story and of course over play. Even if it isnt an adventure map or RPG base setting like if your doing a bound make sure to tell the difficulty level like is it expert or beginner?

Well after reading those three rules you might be wondering that your ready. If so you may now go on to the next step of the post.

What do people like to see in maps!

People like a nice genre of things. If its either RPG or RP, or is it classic adventure or modified melee. Make sure that when your postin that its not out of the category meaning it isnt about 100% of the terrain in the map or is something out of the text like your hosting a contest in the maps in production or seeking help. There are other threads for those.

Terrain Offers a place were you can post up a good terrain that you think was made cool but also read the rules and guidelines in that thread.

Ideas Need a nice idea or want to offer some of your own? Here is a nice section right there.

Some more things you should think about

This might be at the bottom but another recommend thing is to use the classic template that our good friend PcFredz has put up for us. Here you can put in all the information about your map here. biggrin.gif As long as it's information is true.

Another thing to note is even if your not using the template is to Give detailed information about your map. That means dont just type down 2 sentances saying....

I'm making a RPG. It will have 2 guys like fighting over a island then some evil guy named Pookie lord comes and destoroys the island. Rate it,Rate it, Rate it!!!

That is an improper format. Make it longer. Tell us why he destroyed it. Also tell us who the guys are and what they can do to save the other island. List the monsters, enemies and ect. Or if your making a bound, adventure, mystery stradgey and others give us information on that also. Also reminded by Mightybass is to add screenshots into your topic. Don't know how? Use some of the free online ones like imageshack or photobucket to upload your snapshots to the site.

And also don't fill your topic up with flame or unsuitable information. It reall drives people into anger and distrust. Make sure it is always positive and member friendly even of the most cold of maps.

Well that seems like all you need to know about posting a map into the maps in productions thread. It seems that if it looks good and people like it, it will then become popular and then soon be honored by most.

Thanks for taking your time on reading this FAQ on what should go in the maps in productions thread and have a good day.

So what do you think. Does this FAQ seem worthy of becoming a sticky in the maps in production page. Anymore things of response that needs to be added here. That would be of nice consent.

I think the bigger problem with maps in production is that people don't know what it is, but they post threads for maps they will never get close to finishing or sometimes not even ever start. Those kind of maps need to be under "Ideas" and not "Maps in Production."

I suppose your little faq is a good summary of the forum.. just have someone fix up the grammar and spelling.

I believe the issue isn't that people don't know what a map in production is, but its that they never finish the maps being produced.

I think a simplified version of the FAQ should be posted. It should say "Don't make a thread if you know you will never finish the map or you know school will get int he way. Thank you."

For me the one thing that get me into the map is screenies....if you have just 1 or 2 examples of what your maps going to look like your much more likly to have people take it seriously.

Although I've only posted in that area once, I decided I would not post anything about my campaign while I was making it until it was at least about 90% finished. I dunno, the myriad of different comments that someone gets when they start talking about an idea can be discouraging sometimes. I'd say it's best to wait until you're close to finishing it until you let people know.

Small suggestion but can some moderator put my Faq in maps in production sticky? That would be appreciated please. smile.gif

You'd probably want to do a bit of spellchecking first... and correct the capitalization for PCFredZ. tongue.gif

In addition, your formatting is inconsistent. Some headlines are sandwiched between line breaks, others are spaced each with a different number of new lines after the previous topic.

Sometimes you seem too interested in discouraging budding mappers from making their maps, as questions like "Am I really ready to make a map" and "Does this seem like a good idea" are saying the same thing: don't make crappy maps. Unfortunately, they are also unnecessary questions. After all, who in his right mind would ever think that his idea is crappy?

"What is a maps in production"
I don't even have to read past that to tell you that I would never pin something like this.

I was kinda wondering....how does someone not know what a 'Map in production' is? They dont know what production means? It tells you what your supposed to post in that forum section anyway. Whats the point? Newbs cant take a few seconds to look around?

A map in production is a map is not yet complete and the map maker is currently working on it. Anything other than this does not belong in this forum. Please post screenshots, alpha/beta maps, sounds and information about your map so you can get the maximum amount of feedback to improve your map.

That is probably a bad title. You should change it to "About Maps In Production".

Ok I'm renaming it and im going to update it but heres a question.

Should I keep the format on how it already is or should I shorten this or make it longer.

Also by the way I have been promoting this faq in a reasonable manner.

If my final update isnt good enough then some expert member can add-on to it.

You could use parts of it, perhaps. Its just a huge lack of organization that gets in the way. Everything seems really jumbled to me, but I think that's because there's a line overload.

I guess so but might as well I shorten this and then it might be approved.

This is my 7th time adding this to a post MIP for those who keep posting 3 sentances.
