Staredit Network -> Modding Assistance -> Running mods under Linux

I'm trying to run Starcraft on a new Linux box. It works quite well, but I can't run my mods. By renaming the MPQ to Patch_rt, I can trick it into using the patched dats and such, but it won't run anything patching the exe. I'm using WINE to run it under Freespire; I right click my custom exe and open it with WINE, but the exe is still unpatched. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

I don't think you can run exe mods in Linux, sorry. sad.gif

It's got to be possible to emulate... Perhaps someone will have to write a program to mod the mods so that they are playable under Linux?

I'm about to switch to Linux as well, now that my new CPU has finally arrived. Sweet times ahead <3

I'm running it under WINE, so it's emulating Windows...any clue why it doesn't work? Would something be messing with the memory addresses?

yes it does work StarCraft with Wine
u say it right ? http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=starcraft

Anyway... i haven't been use it but in my guessing
Wine is not complete exe running driver
so that has drive just specific games and applications

especialy, if mod builded by memgraft or stargraft then that might be couldn't
point to StarCraft handle

yes as u say, i think that matter is about memory addresses i think so

so if u wanna run or make mod for memory patching
then just edit StarCraft.exe which has memories

but i don't know there is different points of memory adress between Windows and Linux

Yeah, I've tried it as well, but I haven't seen it working at all. There is probably something that is unimplemented in WINE that causes the patching to not work.

As far as I know, WINE doesn't support inline RAM editing, which may be the cause of this (I'm not too sure how Memgraft patches are applied - I'm guessing they access the active StarCraft RAM). If that's the case, then all you privileged PC modders are gonna get a taste of what it's like to be a Mac modder.
