Changing the Tutorials Database into a Wiki is something extremely important to think about. It would certainly be far more useful in Wiki format.
You would be able to include much more information, which could in turn be browsed much faster and more efficiently.
Anyone would be able to update the information at any time, so the Wiki would likely fill up very quickly will all sorts of map making information, making it infintely more useful than the current, limited use Tutorials Database.

The tutorials are hardly ever (never?) updated.
There is a lot of information missing, and a lot of things are just plain wrong.
It needs to be much easier to add new stuff, remove misinformation, and fix errors.
The "Map Making Wiki" would be a wonderful solution.

A wiki of mapmaking. Imagine, if it's ever "completed", how amazing would that be?
It'd be one of the best resources ever. Better than a massive heap of tutorials you have to shuffle through.

Sweet. (First reply, yay!)

Oh boy, no subtleties here anymore. helpsmilie.gif

Why not just restructure the existing tutorial DB a bit and allow it to be editable by members? tongue.gif

I do plan to have everything integrated in v5. But we all know that's going to take some time. wink.gif

What about v4 though? I'd prefer to see something done with the existing DB, like give editting/submission access to regulars or something... which is functionally the same as having a wiki, really. Plus it saves having to start from scratch... again.

Besides, it wasn't working out that well with the other one anyway. Just like the previous wiki, it's kinda a pain to have to port over both members and tutorials (pre-existing or otherwise). Even if this one's supposedly "official" now.

Clan Mp) is going to be giving out points for posting in the Wiki, so special thanks to Mp)Betrayed for the idea.

This an Mp)-sponsored idea then?

Sorry, I don't like it. I never really liked wikis to begin with. Too disorganized.

We have a tutorial db here already. I and other senior members painstakingly pitched in to fill it up. I'd rather see an upgrade to that instead.

I don't have anything against wikis but if some people has trouble with BB code not much people is going to write a wiki article.

Why don't we just make a wikipedia article and link straight to that...?

Writing it isn't so much the problem. The previous one filled up pretty well in spite of having to learn the system (though it was still pretty limited nonetheless). It's rewriting that bugs me.

And if v5 is supposedly coming out, it'd all go to waste being replaced by yet another system, anyway. tongue.gif

They could just transfer the other tutorials.

It's a (U) idea, Mp) is hoping to write some tuturials for it.

Well regardless of whose idea it was... bleh I won't parrot what I said above. I'd just like to see something done with the existing tutorial DB.

StarCraft Wiki? What about the StarCraft Wiki?
There is also another StarCraft Wiki, about multiplayer strategy.
There are also a bunch of wikipedia articles about starcraft. See The StarCraft Wikiportal.

PS. Those quotes don't relate to an "everything StarCraft" wiki. They are about a Map Making Wiki, which already exists.

How about a more SEN-ish theme?

Since so many people want to just edit the current tutorials, I'm going to copy and paste the tutorials into the wiki. Have fun following me and editing them. ^_^

Make sure you follow the pattern in editing the triggers!

I don't think I'll copy all of the tutorials over since some have really crappy names, like "Controllable Vision Without Map Revealers". I think we can group certain parts under "Vision" or something.

There ya go CheeZe. Otherwise we'd all have to behold the Wiki in all its 6-article glory. closedeyes.gif

I did my part by adding an article about RPGs.

So what should the groups/category layout be then?

Great job Moose! smile.gif

ADD:
How do you add something to it?

That's one that I wrote. closedeyes.gif The name sums it up as it is. It's a useful trick though, given the limits of map revealers.

I just don't think we want to have something like:

wiki.staredit.net/Controllable_Vision_Without_Map_Revealers

Or maybe we do. mellow.gif

If all goes according to planned Mp) points will be given for tutorials in both wikis. (not just one)
