Staredit Network -> Modding Chat -> Mass Medieval Mod?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by mayonnaise on 2006-09-19 at 20:57:41
I've seen a few decent mods around here, but nowhere near what they should be. So, how about a huge multi person project making starcraft into...not warcraft, but a medieval starcraft? I'm talking changing the visuals of every unit into customs, changing buildings, IScripts, you name it. I am not an expert modder myself, but I can usually figure out what needs to be done. The big project would be visuals, and this would require several graphic-adept people.

Anyone interested?

Just wait till NirvanaJung re-makes the topic about the mod he's working on, it's almost exactly your description and you'd be surprised at how good the graphics are. smile.gif (it's supposed to be a medieval chinese mod)

Yes, I saw that. I was thinking on a bit different lines, like with a Roman theme or something. And I'm talking customized units, big time. Homemade animations, if possible.

I doubt you could do that, there's very few good animators/modellers and the few we have are already working on projects.

P.S. his mod does have custom units, along with animations he made.

Wow so your saying you can make a mod x17 the mods that have been released here. Seems quite out of the ordinary. crazy.gif

Plus what you said "Medieval starcraft" is really out of the question. I don't see the point about making a future like game into that I mean seriously. No offence.

Changing the visuals of every unit might take some time to do or even longer especially the fact "changing buildings" Iscripts and the rest.

If you can do that go ahead but the fact that this might be a bigger project that you might be understanding could be a little challenging.

Unnless you hire those people for price'y cost of minerals.

*sigh*
And I'm guessing this'll be a Memgraft mod... I can't wait for Firegraft to come out. Then I could try porting it to Mac!

The very point of modding is to change the graphics, looks and essence of the game. Any strategy game engine is similar to StarCraft. What makes SC futuristic is the fact that the graphics are. So if you change the graphics into a medieval theme, it's medieval instead of futuristic. SC is very similar to WarCraft, and people hardly complain about WC being bad because it really "should" be futuristic instead :p

Jeremy> Mods without .exe editing are rarely very advanced. Of course, I would hardly call most mods with .exe editing very advanced either. In my book, they reach this status once there's juicy ASM-editing involved, BST-quality Iscript editing or great AI scripting. The last two of course don't require .exe-editing, but if you make highly advanced Iscripting or AI scripting, you usually make the mod so extensive that you want to change the tech-tree too

Yes, I saw that.  I was thinking on a bit different lines, like with a Roman theme or something.

in fact, i have been got plan to make Rome(Julius Caesar) MOD
but i had focus on what korean more like which mod ?
as u guys know i'm korean and i live in korea so i had to focus on korean's taste

so i made a decision subject matter which based on Favorite Asian culture

as for Roman theme it could be need many graphical stuffs

And I'm talking customized units, big time.  Homemade animations, if possible.

if u try Homemade animations, then u or ur team might be need superior animator
who experienced in creat human Acting animations
basicaly kind of carriage animation is not difficult they have just a few main
walking point in structure

but human and animals are has many of bones and they are natural creation
and peoples are always look human how does they looks
if animation looks not natural anywhere near, peoples be sensible straight
what they looks weird and different from human which has always looked human

and Acutally human animations need to take great times, honestly human is very
difficult object to creat and aniamting even though we are human and
we look human everytimes it's kind of irony lol

So i'm not suggest Homemade all, try use reference samples as u possible
if try work from scratch then ur team would be tresome with heavy a burden
unless ur team have superior aniamtor or 3d Artists

There are so many realsed Rome theme game titiles
typical game is Rome:Total War and Medieval Total War
and civilization and Age of Empire series

Also many of building simulations game kind of "Caesar 3"

those Oriiginal games are could be good sources

Actualy in Rome:Total War modding utilites there are Rome:TW's 3d model
importer for 3dsmax and Gmax (i don't exactly that support to Gmax anyway
that allow to import 3d models which game installed file in 3ds max )

Try refer imported models and texture files then ur work process
would be more easier and quickly

and take look Age of Empire it's has great good typical images which enough to
figure out what about units and buildings of Medieval Rome age

BTW, here one complicated issue is
StarCraft does has Aircraft and transport Airship either
but there is no boat and water ships and u couldn't make those ships unless
u make the lay of water suceessful

that's very complicated issue to me either
in Medieval centry there is no AirCraft but i had cover MOD
with Fantasical setting such as Phoenix, Dragon, balloon and the unicon

if u try MOD go throgh reality settings then u could got complicated issue like that
and u should think about enjoyment of game

if possible transport units by just ground units then game could be tedious and monotony

but there is no The Lay of Water u should make that by editing exe file or dlls
or scm/scx map ur self or other hand of persons

anyways GL~! ur project
