I heard that Starwars 3 was a big hit but for some reason the topic was never made.
In my opinion it was the best of all the star wars movies but I'm just wondering what others think.
I thought it was the best of the prequels. But it still pales in comparison with the older trilogy. The old films (especially The Empire Strikes Back) are so much more mature and thoughtfully designed. They had a depth to them that allows you to find something new about them everytime you leave them and come back when you're older. The prequels have way too much exposition and leave little to interpretation on the viewers' part and I strongly believe that makes them weaker.
I shudder at the thought of the prequels. I thought they were poorly concieved and should not have been written by George Lucas. It would have been better if they were left simply as ideas (just like Lucas' plan for 7, 8, and 9).
I can go into greater detail as to why I hated all three, but I think the above statement already sums it up. Plus I'm the resident film snob, so I look at more than the entertainment value when I watch films. Episode III was fun when I saw it in theaters, don't get me wrong, but if you were to actually analyze it, it was really bad (just like Lucas' additions to 4, 5, and 6).
Yeah, the special editions were crap. However, the digital remastering was pretty nice (moreso in Episodes 5 and 6 than 4). If it weren't for say... the ridiculously exotic locations and Jake Lloyd (or whoever the Hell couldn't act to save his freaking life in the first one), Episode One would actually have been a "decent" experience. I actually rewatched it and it bothered me less than Episodes 2 and 3 did. George seems to think we actually give a damn about weird jungle mushrooms and "neat, new worlds." And yet the best scene in any of the movies was when Yoda lifted the X-Wing out of the swamp. Guess what, it was set on Dagobah, the universe's arsehole. Nothing bright or colorful about that. In fact, there wasn't anything bright or colorful about the original trilogy (except the damn ewoks, die!).
I'm really glad he rereleased the older remastered versions without all the additions. Its been selling like crazy at my local video store, and everyone has been constantly asking if its got the new stuff in it or if its the original films. No one is disappointed when they hear that they are the originals.
Eh am I going paranoid because after watching episode three then watching episode four I just wanna barf on all the other prequels all together. I guess I'm moreas an action fan and I probably was more lured to the expanded universe. I dont know.
I just looked at your profile and I saw you were 14. I'm not being judgemental here, but your age group and the slightly younger age group are the ones that movies like the prequels strive to appeal to. I hope that sometime, when you're in your 20s, you can get all six movies and watch them back to back (hopefully after not seeing any of them for a few years). You'll be blown away by the huge imbalance in story quality between the two trilogies.
ah so... that means that it takes older people to comprehend the storyline and the factors that make the sequels better?
No, it means you wont like the prequels because you'll appreciate the quality of 4, 5, and 6. The prequels just tarnish it.
Yeah, you have to either be young or extremely forgiving to like the prequels, but you can be any age and enjoy the sequels.

I did that with a cousin. I fell asleep during episode II. III is still my favorite, closely followed by V.
hm yea but episode four in my opinion looks like crap though iono, the other V and six are good but I dont jsut like four.
I hate Revenge of the Sith more than any other Star Wars episode.
I think it has something do with
a) The book is better. Much better.
b) I read the book first, since it was released first.
I think I have that issue with most films that have books released before the movie. They always end up being better to me.
Though in this case I haven't read any of the Star Wars books attached to the 6 films.
I never read the books but i'll say this:
Episode 1-it was ok, a typical c+ movie
Episode 2-What was Lucas thinking!? D-
Episode 3-The part i waited for the most was the greatest disappointment, Anakin becoming Darth Vader but i did like the battle scene with anakin and obi wan. B
Episode 4-It was a great start for the series back then, but it wasn't one of my favorites. B-
Episode 5-This one was very well done. It showed how life doesn't always end in a good way when it showed all the problems the rebels were facing and Luke finding out that Vader is his father. B+
Episode 6-This was the best of them all. It was Emperor Palpatines greatest fall and the rebirth of a once great hero. A-
I think Return of the Jedi was my favorite as well. I always liked that one as a kid because for some reason it was the most entertaining. And I'm a sucker for Ewoks.
er what so bad about episode 2 is it the lack of epic storyline or something?
The thing that drove me nuts the most was the love scenes between Anakin and Padme. OMG!!! The lines are so bad, it takes a special kind of genius to conceive them. Plus, those darn wacky enemy droids were annoying. As well as the constant homages to Boba Fett. I don't know why people think he's so badass. Did all of his worshipers forget that he was killed because a blinded Han Solo bumped into him? I could go on, but the list would get pretty long.
By the way, in case I didn't make it clear before, my favorite of them all is The Empire Strikes Back.
I think that seems to be the common love of most Star Wars fans (or Star Wars purists at least). People generally respect New Hope for being the first, but the love Empire out of all of them.
I think my major issue with 1, 2, and 3 would be the writing and directing. Ironically I think the reason why I like 5 and 6 so much is because Lucas co-wrote them and did not direct them - though he did write and direct 4, which I did like, but I think that's because he wasn't a hit yet.
It was also probably due to the fact that he didn't have total control over his movie (New Hope). It seems like some overshadowing restriction (such as budget, time, technological difficulties/limitations, super strict studio execs, etc.) tends to bring out the best in some directors.

He wasn't killed. He blasted his way out of the sarlacc and was saved by two random people.

In some non-official book, maybe.
Oh, and I was generalizing about the age thing.
Oh man the first time you watch the movies in the theater I KNOW that your all going "WHOA!!"
After that when you watch em a second time and so on its just like "...What was I thinking? This isnt THAT great." This was the case for all the prequils anyway.
Okay on to what I think of starwars.
Episode 1 : I loved it, it was definately my favorite of the prequils(I'm an Obi-Wan fan
)
Episode 2 : Hated it. Anakin was snobish, bad acting, Obi-Wan was underpowered in it too much.(Notice how he was always getting his ass beaten. i.e Jango Fett, Droids in the message they he sent to anakin, Dooku.)
Episode 3 : It was good, I liked Obi-Wan's attitude, the thing I thought was dumb was how Anakin was seriously persuaded by that fool speech by palpatine.
Episode 4 : Loved it, the best part for me was the X-Wings attacking the Death Star(Along with some Y-Wings)
Episode 5 : My favorite Episode, it had everything good in it. Nice snow battle, my favorite lightsaber duel, big bad Empire, what wasnt to like?
Episode 6 : Meh, it was a good ending but it lacked what I thought it needed which was Drama.
Btw Doodan the Boba Fett being saved was official to the "Star Wars universe" or are you gonna start saying that Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade, Talon Karrade are all unofficial because they were in books and not the movies?

Meh, I'm not a Star Wars fanboy, so I'm probably gonna lose this one. But I DO believe that in the ORIGINAL ROTJ, Boba Fett was supposed to die. But someone who wrote the sequel books liked him enough to write about his survival, and Lucas capitalized on the growing popularity of the character and increased his prominince in the original trilogy's special editions (like when he turns and mugs the camera in Ep 4 after we see the CGI Jabba. He's telepathically telling you "Buy action figures!") and increasing the importance of an otherwise 1 dimensional character by making him even more important in the prequels.
EDIT:
Spellage
Technically the films came before the books (for once) and that's what makes it "unofficial" to him. And I agree with him. If something happens different in the books than the movie, I'd say the movie had the correct outcome.
Oh and...

I thought the graphics were great, but the first time around I knew I would hate them. I never saw them a second time.
