Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Waterfalls

QUOTE
Waterfalls don't work, simply because unless you have constant vision of the waterfall the fog of war will not revealthe sprites, showing the crappy tiles underneath.

I have read quite a few posts like the above and I thought about it for a second and realized that you could simply black it out in the fog of war layer smile.gif

If this is not true can someone tell me why?

What do you mean by "black it out"?

uh, can you elaborate? I have no idea what you are asking...

As I think he is meaning that is possible to simple make the little waterfall undiscovered when it's out of view. Good luck with that fella!

You could try making it blurred with stacked cloaked buildings. Don't know how that would look though, and theres no way to make it move in fog of war.

Wouldn't the flying cloaked buildings dissappear in fog of war? I mean, they are like units, but flying units!

Woah, I'm pretty sure that quote is my post O.o

The only way I think you could make it work is to put a map revealer over it.

Or.

Use another player's vision when you move to it and turn your vision off. When you move away switch the visions again. This way you would never reveal the area and it would be pitch black untill you move there again.

This requires another player though.

Why was that invisibled? ermm.gif

Another thing you could do is simply NOT make the underneath tiles random ugl blocks, but actual water. Also, buildings don't disappear in fog off war, but the don't appear cloaked either. So that idea would not work.

Because I realized that fog of war works the same whatever vision you have. Like if you see the territory with other player's vision and then lose the vision it wouldn't be pitch black as default anymore.

They do dissappear as flying, which are needed for cloaked buildings.

Oh i get the question now... Well, the only reason I would use a waterfall is to make a cut scene look pretty sweet, so the only time they would see the blockiness would be if they look at it after the cut scene... I really doubt there would be any other way to do it...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Chronophobia on 2006-09-27 at 19:21:07
But you could actually place a map revealer and alotsa disabled in-transit terrain buildings there, and when the unit comes in sight of the waterfall, remove the buildings.

Even though it would be pretty location intense.

Fog of war layer.... Check this out...
Clan MM Tutorial

The fog of war layer can be used to make the fog of war much darker, and so you can 'black out' the waterfall

ADDITION:
Dang... I made my own map and tested, I feel like such an idiot... Meh, I'm noteven gonna let you guys get your responses in.. haha, and for anyone who was wondering, the fog of war layer simply shows anything you light up at the start of the game so they have 'fog of war' for it
