Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> Having a good game

Its always suprised me how pro players can act like noobs after beating, and sometimes absolutely destroying, their opponents. Most of the time, however, they are not pro. They just have played a good game and defeated their opponents, but that doesn't change anything. When they start gloating, rivalry, being a stuck up winner, etc you may interpret this as "Squelch me and put me in your 'noobs' box for your next map." These are also the people I call "The fags of Battle.net." I myself have been stupid before and I probobly will again, but I have found my best most enjoyable games (in any game other than StarCraft(like halo)) have been found in the following.

Basically, when you win, don't go off on the other person and start saying how you ahnilated him and asking him if he liked your tactics...because thats pure bullcrap. Instead, compliment him on his good tries and efforts. Even if there weren't really any and he just plain sucked, lie through your teeth but don't over do it. A plain "gg" or "gt [opponents name here]" can be sufficient. Of course your probobly thinking how dinky this sounds by now but I have also noticed that a mere "pwned" describing him could set him off. They might be oversensative and all that. If you have a teammate and you both did really well, don't start publicly talking to eachother about what a good job of destroying the other team you did. Do that in later or on Allied chat. Its a pain in the butt to have two guys joking around about getting you. It may sound mild on paper but its really annoying in the game. Also, if you have had a bitter experiences and feuds with him before and you destroy him, let me tell you it can be a great time to make "peace" or w/e with him (gosh that sounded gay). Anyway, if anything, I'd just keep your mouth shut and move on. Its not worth the gloating. Don't even recognize that your bitter enemies and just say what a good try he did or something. Even if he is swearing his head off at you, he's just saying what an even more loser he is. ("Your a cock sucker!" <-- Nooooob).

The losing perspective. I have had the best games when I have lost. I just say what a good job the other guy(s) did (and usually my noob teammate is saying what "douche bags" they are) and compliment them. I also like to make humor out of my deaths and stuff (because most of the time, they truly are funny). If a guy is going off on his "rapage" and how he "pwned" you, let it go. Your probobly best not sayign any thing and just having a good time in the game, not the chat. I find it so amazingly stupid if they go off on how bad you suck and downright be blunt with you. One, you could just be having a bad game. Two, everyones gotta learn somewhere, and apparently he's not the kind of fool to do that with because he's to ignorant of the fact. Three, just because he won, doesn't mean you suck...figure it out, genius.

One thing that can be so....freaking...annoying....is when your trying to have a good game and your NOOB PARTNER screws everything up. Well don't start thinking like that because you can have a freaking awsome time with your noob homie! Sometimes your not in the mood, I know. But if your gonna start doing something stupid, just leave. Let the noob get destroyed. Anyway! You kind of had to be there to get it but me and this noob realized all was lost (I'm pretty noob myself anyway) So we basically started destroying ourselves in the funnest way possible. (We sorta ended up winning, now that I recall...I think, but this isn't one of those sappy excited-in-vain moral stories). He started going on a self nuking rampage while I did some bouncing around (which eventually ended up in death). (Also note that when your making humor of your death, your in this hyper "you can't phase me!" sort of mind). So right when this guy's nuke(s) was coming down, one of the opposing team had just decided to use the dropship tactic. As I said, you kind of had to be there, but it was freaking hilarious. One squad of dropships and nuke after another. That guy also was bringing his vital Hero in which was his worst decision ever (but you can't really expect to have your guy die from someone nuking himself). Well anyway, I won't go into the whole story...because I can't remember all of it. But I do remember that we got 12 kills from landing buildings, wasted about a total of 6000 gas and mins on which buildings could survive the longest in the enemies base (I lost some units money on the bets), MCed 1/5 of a small army (this was not melee, this was a multy raced UMS kinda thing), and got every building in their base plagued (Just some key highlights). You can have fun in other ways than suicide of course. I think him and I's doom was a lot farther away than we thought. So anyway that was a golden moment. You can also have so much fun fighting to the death with a noob because sometimes they think scv's are the best fighting units due to their looks.

Being the noob. I'm that a lot and I still don't really know what to do except take the ridiculous insults and have fun making humor from my deaths or w/e.

Pwning a noob thats full of swear words is kind of hard to compliment. He's kind of oblivious to what you say you know? Just know that there's nothing he really can do and don't say much. That doesn't mean say a fewer insults, that means stfu.

Basically here's how I think a game should be played

Pwned? No problem! When in doubt, kill yourself or realize how funny it looks when you die! Also say what a good job the guy pwning you is doing

Being sworn at and being pwned? Screw them! Suicide for the win!

N00b partner? Teach how not to be a noob, or be taught how to be a noob. (AND ATTACK OF THE SCV'S!)

fool noob gettin' pwned? (* = your thoughts) *HAHAHHAHAHA WHAT A LOSER!!* "Good try, homie."

Are you teh 1337s4uc3? Good job! Now say (maybe lie) what a good job your opponent did because your probobly having more fun than him (probobly not actually).

Are you and your and your teammates teh "wtfpwn3dbyporcupine"? Whisper to your teammate that he pwns (and he'll probobly do the same) and publicly say gg and gt.

Are you the no0bzorz? Whats worse than having your prey leave the game? LEAVE THOSE STUCK UP WINNERS!

You probobly are all disagreeing with me and probobly won't use this...but I just thought I'd tell you what got me the best....times....evar!

You are facing the problem of the world being stupid.

Whenever possible try to avoid playing with the public, play with friends or... at sen.
Granted there might not always be people on op sen, in which case you should play games that take a longer time to beat; there seems to be less jerks that play those games.

Is it me or do many people face the "People are stupid" problem at the age of 14-16? tongue.gif

If you're facing it, it means that you do have a functional brain. Congrats.

That's part of it, but at that age they have not yet realized that they too are very stupid in their own way, too. tongue.gif

Hey.. I resent that tongue.gif. Don't tell me, Doodan, that you find that the majority of battlenet players are nice, polite, intelligent people.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodan on 2006-09-29 at 17:35:45
Of course not. I'm sure that some of them are smarter than they act. But what I was saying is that as you're growing up, you tend to become aware of other people's ignorance before you notice your own.

Of course they'll gloat. They won for once out of the million times they played the game. They'll act cocky since they don't know you, so what will you do about it? Say mean words to them? People act stupid on the internet because they can without any consequences. Nothing really new.

I also don't think I've ever seen the word, "noob", so many times in a rant before.

I read the first slab of thought meat, tried to make my way through the next, but couldn't. Try to be a little more concise please o.o

Overall I agree with what you're saying, I think. Something I'd like to add, is that the best players are always very good sports. There are times when it's appropriate to be looser with your manner (the other person understands you're trying to be funny), and anyone with half a brain knows when these are. The majority of 'gosu' (means very skilled) StarCraft players will say "gg" at the end of a match, and will not talk about how badly you lost. It feels good when after a game, you wish one another luck in the rest of the season. If you have a reputation for being a bad mannered player who is generally unpleasent after a match (win or lose) no one will want to play you anymore, and you'll never get the chance to become gosu.

Cloud could've killed Sephiroth at the end of FFVII with one simple slash. Instead, he chose to go all out and use his Omnislash.

Similarly, if you (Cloud) completely obliterate an opponent (Sephiroth), you should be allowed to have your way with them and their self-esteem.

This only applies if you're fighting EVIL, though. If you're having a fun little sparring session with a friend, you should put the friendship first and your ego last.

Yea its really frustrating if people act like idiots and mess up a game on sc, but you know what's more frustrating?

Well when people mess up sports in p.e. We had a sub who didnt know ANYTHING about volleyball, so the other people decided to have a little fun. They started kicking the ball and lol my team started attacking each other threatenting them.

But you do end up with the same amount of frustration whether its on games or not.

I agree. I really don't like playing Snipers locks with a lot of my clan mates, because if I screw up once, my teammates call me a noob, or my enemies start bragging "GG HAWK EZ PWN LOL"

Usually, if my teammate does do something like that, I backstab. XD

Just annoy them back by saying something witty since most of the time they arent very smart people. I always get a good laugh out of people like this.

Dont use the word "fag" like that please.

As long as it's discussion and it makes us feel nice, I'm all for it. Battlenet standard players = n00bz0rz who were n00bz0r1z3d by me. Most of them don't care about standing and only seek to win and make themselves feel better. They're usually a hoot. Like Yenku said, something that makes you seem mature and ignorant at the same time works wonderfully.

Wow, what happened to the censors?

I know you're trying to make a point which would be difficult to make otherwise, but tone down the language a little. Putting 'fags' in the topic title is like wearing a t-shirt with 'Please Shoot Me' written on it.

I guess what I really meant is that, even if people are better than you (or even the worse ones who talk crap), you should never take thier ignorant comments to heart. People think they are invincible behind thier computers but really they are just as insecure as every other nerd out there. Be strong and let them make you smile.

Are you referring to me?

I was moderating the censor evasions out of his post and topic title, and commented on it. I don't think that's spamming.
