You're not the only one who heard of it/saw it. IQ has nothing to do with whether you get addicted or not, as HolySin said it just helps you realize that you're addicted. It's all about the way you think, not how skilled you are at thinking.

But then again who would want to play WOW for like 12 hours or more straight.
Like seeing the same enimies over and over again and the same units ah I rather play starcraft then that crap.

Even though a korean played starcraft for many hours straight but not as much as WoW.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lithium on 2006-10-11 at 11:08:32
You dont know how much Koreans were addicted in SC back in the 1998s. Some Koreans went refridgerator + PC + a week straight of starcraft. Then died of a heart failure. I laughed at the news, and my mom scolded me. Really. WoW is nothing compared to koreans being addicted to SC.

Oh man that southpark episode was so jokes. "I'm playing a MMO RPG and I'm in a party gaining xp using Speak-talk"

"I'm not an R-tard...."

Yes that episode was jokes:

"Ah man I just took the biggest dump were are you guys"

Also heres wikipedias article on game addictions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_addiction

Its quite ironic that 40% of people who need game theorapy are from the WoW players.

I just got it about a week ago, WoW, and I definantly see why it's called Warcrack. I don't know, but I enjoy playing it, and can't wait to get home to play it, at least now that my internet has stopped sucking.

I kinda don't wanna get uber addicted to it, so I told myself that I'm not gonna even start WoW until 4 (1 hr after I get home), and I'm kinda proud of myself for doing so.

What you did = smart. When you find yourself playing for 5+ hours a day start worrying and canceling your subscription.

That is one sign that will lead to addiction.

When you can't wait to play it? That sounds highly.. stupid. I can't wait to play WoW when I get home, but I never plan on raiding for 12 hours straight.

I disagree. School is generally boring, and the next fun thing he is going to do is probably World of Warcraft.

SEN is too fun, I promised myself I would do work when I got home, then I checked SEN and said I'd do it at 7:30, and now it's 7:48. sad.gif

I don't post much on these forums anymore, but after reading this topic i felt like i needed to voice my oppinion and experiences about WoW.

I started to play WoW last Febuary, leveling from 1 to 60 for me was very slow, as i would only play for at most 3 hours a day. Around level 30 a joined a small guid witha bunch of canadian's that we're pretty awesome and extremely halairous. I stayed with these guys untill i was around 58, when we merged with another guild in the hopes to start raiding 40 man groups

Anyway, this guild failed to get numbers of people to raid, so at this stage i was still only playing 3 days max. This guild then merged with another guild and we started raiding and I started to play more. On weekends it was not uncommon for me to play 6 hours a day or more that night raiding, farming, pvping etc.

This guild ended up having TOO MANY people in it, so a new more tightnit guild was formed, which included me and my two friends mentioned above. It is in this guild that I think that at one stage i was addicted to WoW. I would wake up at 7am on a weekend, and play untill 12pm that night, only to wake up and do the same thing on Sunday, then during the week play from around 7pm to 2pm every night. So, basically, my social life died.

But ironically, this is not what made me cut down on WoW. A person in the guild, whom had become a friend's wife left him because of WoW, he was devesatated and vowed to never play WoW again. Now, there was a person, a girl, who was not in the guild but was friendly with everyone in the guild. She was also, as was mentioned in someone else's post 'my online girlfriend'. Since i hadnt really had a GF since i started to raid, i continued with the relationship.

It so happened that my friend whos wife left him and my online girlfriend lived in the same state, and they started to spend time together, and when he told that his wfe has since caught him sleeping with another women, a big bell in my suddnely sounded and said to me "WAKE THE freak UP, WHAT THE freak ARE YOU DOING?"

Coninedicenly, a week later, the guild broke up, to form an even more hardcore raiding guild, and i was left behind. At first i was pissed, but then I realised that it was a blessing, that had saved me from destroying my life cause of a game.

I still play WoW, but i have joined a guild that raids only three times a week and for 4 hours, tops, and there is no obligation to stay on and raid for the full four hours or even show up at all. I now have a real girlfriend (/gasp) and my social life is slowly getting better. That was probally abit long, but just wanted to add a personal experience about WoW and say that you can still enjoy WoW without getting addicted, if your smart

Can somebody please explain what exactly raiding is? I have a feeling it's just ambushing a group of people... but it seems like that's all everybody does in WoW...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by High on 2006-10-12 at 00:02:22
Basically a raid is group of more than 5 people taking on the same challenge. Raiding as most people use it means getting a group of people to take on a dungeon. Raids range from 10 Man to 40 Man raids. The best gear availible in the game is through 40 man raids, although it takes 40 people to kill a boss, only 2 or 3 items will drop, so you must continue to raid the same stuff over and over again to get all the stuff you want

Those who say that 'if you can't wait to play when you get home from school, it means you're addicted', please explain your stupid reasoning.

You do know that we don't mean 'can't wait to play' literally, of course, right? We mean we really want to play and look foreward to it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2006-10-12 at 16:03:09
It doesn't mean you're addicted, it means you're on your way to, if you keep it up.

I look forward to it 'cause I have nothing else to do, honestly. I live in the middle of nowhere. My closest friend, who never really spends time with me, chick, by the way, is 4-5 miles away, and after that it's another 20 miles till my next closest friend. I would prefer to be out and about, spending time with my friends, but I can't 'cause I can't drive, nor do my parents want to take me everywhere.

What do you mean, 'on my way to'. Support it. Why does wanting to play a game after you get home from 7 hours of school and a 3 hours of riding the subway mean I'm going to become an addict?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2006-10-13 at 16:29:23
It means you MAY BE on the way to being said addict.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-10-18 at 11:25:24
Which ruins the statement -.-. If I go to SEN I 'may be' on my way to become a game addict too.. Whatever.

Let me make it perfectly clear that people ambushing other people in WoW is one of the rarest things to happen in the game. The word "Warcraft" has absolutely no meaning, as there is no actual war happening in the gameworld. The only player versus player action that happens is in small battlefields called "Battlegrounds".

Nah, it happens if you're on a PVP server, though if you're not it's nearly impossible to attack a player of the opposite faction. On a PVP server, you can fight people of opposite faction if:
You're both in a 'contested' zone.
He's in a zone owned by your faction. You can attack him, but he can't attack you (unless you're in PVP mode).

I am on a PvP server. The only "ambushing" that happens on our server is when a Molten Core group splatters an UBRS group of their way to the instance, or 60's one-shotting level 30's or so in Stranglethorn Vale.

Lucky. I don't get killed often, but once in a while I meet a hordie or two. These locations include, but are not limited to: Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale, Scarlet Monastary, Redridge Mountains, Ashenvale, Barrens.

I have a very close friend who is a World Of Warcraft addict. The game is incredibly fun and I could see how easy it would be to get addicted.
