I say we tear apart the current structure of categories and subcategories and everything and redo this in v5. All current posts can be put into an "archive" table and accessed from there. A clean slate is the best way to implement a redo of the outdated organization that we have. Any input?

Why? I seem to start getting the sense v5 is trying to be a whole new site..

New site in an old package. That's what it should be.

I thought about that Moose... and I'd rather not. What's the point besides being a clean slate?

Let's discuss it though... anyone have thoughts on it?

We get to change/add/remove/move forums without having to worry about where posts go and solve some organizational problems.

But finding anything becomes a royal pain.

Anything old. tongue.gif
Topic ID references would still be there.

I think our organization is pretty good right now. Many new SC sites take our organization as a template. tongue.gif

Mostly seconded.

Oh, we can also compact the ID numbers. We're on.... 89 now?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-10-04 at 16:02:40
That would be a good idea.

no...
that would mess up links inside posts... and other sites...

Just one possible model I came up with. Not focused around specific categories of things so much as more generalized ones, with specific parts that get frequent discussion isolated for seperate emphasis:
  • SEN
    • News
    • Welcome
    • Rules & Policy
    • Site discussion
  • Projects
    • Releases (matched with DLDB entries somehow?)
    • Online UMS
    • Single-Player & Campaigns
    • Melee
    • Mods
    • Editors
  • R&D
    • Help (new centralized help area)
    • Triggers (basically the Concepts forum...)
    • Terrain
    • Ideas
      • Junkyard (aka Project Graveyard)
  • Discussions
    • Community Discussion (currently Miscellaneous)
      • Popularity contests (Polls)
      • Fun & Games
    • General Discussion (current Lite Discussion)
    • Serious Discussion
    • Specific Discussion
      • Creative
        • ... (list here)
      • Entertainment
        • ... (list here)
      • Technical
        • ... (list here)
  • Clans (leave this base forum open for new, general, or inter-clan discussions)
    • ... (list here)

What about Staff, v6 Discussion, and SeN Modding team?

I like....
General discussion and community discussion probably should keep their orginial names...
And there will be no "rules and policy" forum. Anything will be in the site faq and tos.

And syphon... there will be no v6 discussion...
If there is ever a v6, I will do it the way I intended to in the first place... completely hidden from people until it's close to being launched. That way, if I don't work on it / finish it / etc, no one will know smile.gif (It will also probably be in asp! smile.gif)

v6? Heh.

Actually I was modeling the names after naming conventions I've seen from other forums. But the structure is my idea.

I'll think of another later when I can get some time.

Let's figure this out... smile.gif

Discussions:
-- Miscellaneous
-----Polls
-----File Request
-----Advertising
-- General Discussion
-- Serious Discussion
-- Creativity (Not a forum in itself)
-----Art & Images
-----Videos and Movies
-----Music and Solund
-----Literature and Writting
-- Computer Discussion (General... hardware, software, etc)
----- Games
----- Programming & Websites

I, for one, hate massive sub forums... so um... hmm...

Based on total activity, Creative can really be consolidated back into one forum.

You are probably right... moose, whatcha think?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-10-07 at 09:51:39
Art & Images, Videos and Movies, Music & Sound can be combined into one forum named Media.

Programming & Websites can just be made into a generic computers forum.

Literature & Writing... dunno where that fits. tongue.gif

Ye Olde Media

How much activity does the literature forum get anyway? Usually if anyone finds or writes any cool articles or anything they end up posting them in the main discussion forums. Don't see literature too useful to have as its own category, frankly.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Rantent on 2006-10-07 at 20:52:28
Its because people involved in map making aren't romantic enough to be poets. bleh.gif

On a serious note though, I would rather see more ideas for storylines and rpg plots make it in literature and writing, as I think that is the main way it relates with the rest of the forum. I guess people just don't consider that literature, and post it more in ideas areas. pinch.gif
