Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> North Korea what to do with their weapons?

Well I'am in Seoul, the most dangerous city in the world. Today, at 11:00 am, a nuclear test was conducted in North Korea, north east.
What do you think will happen? How will Bush react to this? and most of all, what will Kim Jung Il do with the nuclear weapon?
( Remember: Do not act as if you know North Korea, think of North Korea as Kim Jung Il only, and him only because he's the only person that matters in that country. )

I dont know much about north korrea or Li (except what "Team America" taught me) but i think he'll threaten us with it, and then bush will get pissed and we will go to war, they'll launch the nuke at L.A. (YES!!!!) and then we will kill Li and the hole iraque sistuation will be repeated, bush will try to make it a democratic country.

This is what my imagination told me, maybe im wrong, maybe i just hate californians (i do)

I believe that the U.S. government will say that they'll keep an eye on North Korea, but then ignore it after two days or so and go back to focusing on Iran and it's development of nuclear power.

Now, to get specific, Kim Jong Il is insane. Chances are, he will attack the U.S. eventually, probably by causing a tsunami by exploding a nuclear bomb near the costs of the U.S. since the bomb probably wouldn't reach the contiguous states, but could hit water near it. This is of course when North Korea has perfected its use of military weapons. Also, this is assuming if the U.S. continues to observe from afar and not take any action. What I don't get is why the U.S. government is so focused on Iran which is developing nuclear power, but not North Korea which has developed nuclear power.

Now for the alternate scenario: North Korea uses the nuclear missile on South Korea in a horrific takeover, probably being supported by China (after all, they're the reason there is a North Korea). When this happens, the U.S. and many other countries will probably draw back from the Middle East. The citizens will probably start acting very isolationist; or act the exact opposite and want attention on North Korea, but that's unlikely.

Now for the very wishy washy scenario: North Korea does nothing, just keeps running nuclear bomb tests. All the countries further discourage North Korea's use of nuclear bomb and eventually stops altogether. I'm incredibly certain this won't happen. North Korea's economy is based off military goods, so a country that is so focused on its military isn't going to just stop its use of nuclear power. They'll probably use a nuclear bomb on South Korea or the U.S.

Why can't all the countries just become incredibly neutral?

Kimmy may be insane, but I doubt he's that stupid (I have no sources on that, so if someone disagrees with me I won't contest it). Nuclear bombs has become more of a prestiage thing than an actual device of war (defensive maybe, but most definetly not a first strike thing) I think that's mostly the reason Kim wants them. Also, I doubt China will support North Korea if they do attack South Korea with it.

First of all, if they do attack America WILL come in no ands-ifs or buts about it, and most likely Europe will come into it, seeing as how a nuclear weapon is the most feared and despised weapon. With that in mind I really doubt China wants to get into this mess against a very large part of the world. Secondly, China wouldn't like all that radioactive stuff getting caught in the wind and winding up on Chinese soil. Lastly, I wouldn't be surprised if China invaded North Korea and say "NO" to Kim and overthrow him or something.

I was first born in seoul it wasnt so much of a danger back then, but now that I'm in canada I'm worried for my country.

Anyways I heard there is a small probablity that North Korea might sell the Nuclear missiles for a high price to al-queada in Time Magazine, who might have no hesitation to use them. Just to tell you americains that you might be in danger too, not just seoul if Kim Jong Il sells it to the terrorists which would be a lucrative deal for him.

not exactly Kim Jong Il uses them mostly as to threaten bush so that he can't boss him around. It gives him a place of power, and he's not stupid to make them although it is a bit insane. If he is put into a position where he has to use them he probably will use them but I doubt that North America will do such a thing to put him in a position to fire a nuclear weapon.

If Kim Jong Il did happen to use a nuclear weapon, the U.S. wouldn't attack them alone, every country has discouraged it since their last nuclear testing.

Kim Jong Il has some very rational reasons for progressing with his nuclear program. America is determined to wipe North Korea off the map by all means possible, and Kim sees a nuclear program as the only sure way to keep American troops out of Korea. Think - if Saddam had proven prior to our invasion that he had the capability to launch nuclear-laden ICBMs, would we have invaded Iraq?

This just might have caused a arms race in the eastern asia, as of China will start building up nukes because North Korea has 4 or 5. Then when Japan sees this as a legal way to get their army able to be legally considered as one, they will again try to get their way into the UN Security Council, and then boom. They have legal right to hold nuclear weapons. Until as of yesterday, there were only 7 countries confirmed of nuclear weapons. - China, U.S., Russia, U.K., France who hold their nuclear weapons LEGALLY. There are 3 countries not in the NPT, which is Pakistan, India, and Israel. Pakistan and India have been confirmed to hold nuclear weapons. But Israel wasn't. They never announced or tested a nuclear weapon. But there are high possibilities that Israel do hold one. So North Korea was added to the list of that Nuclear Power. 8th or 9th.
I absolutely don't like how this going. I'am just hoping N.K. collapses just by the biggest sanction in the world right now.

Keep hoping lithium, North Korea has been through the toughest crap ever and it's very unlikely that it will fall, as long as Kim is in power.

I feel bad for Japan honestly. They are far too close to this zone of mayhem, and of course are our allies. You might say that Japan would not be targeted by Kim Jong Il, because they are our allies, and messing with Japan, is like messing with us (the U.S.), but you also might say that they would mess with Japan, because they are associated with us.
Also, if anyone here has been closely following the news, you'd have heard the discussion from that "emergency UN meeting" in NY last night (10.9.06) and during that meeting, the US, along with Japan, and the UK pressed for Chapter 7 sanctions to be Ok'd, which basically leaves all passive options open to us and the allies. What I believe Bush will push for is not only an economic embargo, which will definitely put a thorn in N. Korea's side, but he will probably pursue a naval blockade. Both of which fall under Chapter 7. I would back Bush 100% if he made these moves, because I feel that not only is he sticking to his speech(es) in which he said that he plans to work through diplomacy for as long as he can; and this is a non-invasive method to begin choking N. Korea out of resources.

However, before posting this I just checked Foxnews.com and nearly had a heart attack when I saw the main article.
"North Korean official says it will fire nuclear-tipped missile if U.S. doesn't engage in one-on-one talks" (10.10.06)
Here's the link-- http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,219121,00.html

Not only does this startling information make me think that Kim Jong Il is truly out of his mind, but more extreme action on our, and the allies behalf may need to be taken sooner than we thought. I have a terrible feeling that diplomacy is not going to stand for too much longer if threats like this now have the potential to be carried out.

I must say, I don't actually believe that I have felt that I myself am in danger here in America before now. But, I mean, I live about 50 minutes from NYC, and as everyone knows, that is one of the 4 major targets in this country; the others being: Washington DC, L.A. and Chicago-- in that order.

This is getting heated real fast people.

North Korea is probably doing this because they are a weak nation. They are just trying to look big so no one would try to take over or start a war with N.K.

Well, they dont have ICBMs, so theres no way they could launch a nuke at the US (even Alaska or Hawaii).

2 points doodle.

N. Korea's economy is driven by its lucrative business of weapons and weapons technology distribution. What makes you think that a customer of N. Korea, or better yet-- an ally (such as China) couldn't provide them with the technology for ICBMs, or even just supply them with the missiles directly? (and no, China is not some innocent bistandard as many people would like to think. They are taking a long time to decide whether or not they want to side with the allies in regards to Chapter 7 sanctions against N. Korea because they are stalling for time. They are the closest ally with N. Korea and aren't about to ditch that.)

Also N. Korea does not nessicerilly have to launch a missile(s) at us. Kim Jong may be insane, but he's not the stupidest of folk. He would in all likelihood pay off another country who isn't particulary fond of the U.S. to launch the missile(s) for him, or have nuclear devices smuggled into our country and have them detonated internally in a pre-set location. The guy knows that Bush has drastically improved our anti-missile defense over the past 5 years. It would be imprudent of him to simply launch a very costly warhead over the entire pacific ocean, and expect it to actually reach the continental U.S.

The only thing that gets me angry is the fact that on some documentrys it shows I think it was north korea or something but there miliatary doing these army routines and they have the guns in there hands. It looks like there beggin to get into a war.

Who knows. If a war was to start but the UN only allowed north korea and south korea to have there war and at the end of the war. Korea splits and then there is 4 countries.

North korea, West Korea, South Korea and East korea. Or even North west korea,
South west korea,South east korea, North west korea.

Sorry I just wanted to add humor. tongue.gif

Theres no such thing as communism in the world. China designates people when they are born if they are city boy or farm boy. City people earn more money than the farm people do. In North Korea, Kim Jung Il eats all the rice and others starve to death. Theres no such thing as "Communism" They made a new word for the type of government NK has o_o But i know this, it is a complete dictatorship much closer to Stalin's.
The Idea of "communism" is sweet. But it will never happen. which brings back to the point in North Korea crisis. They aren't worried about them launching the missile. They are worried that they will sell the nuclear warheads and ICBMs to other countries like Iran and other millitaristicly obsessed and enemies to the U.S.
